It's part of GS lore that some ignorant management folk once told young Koga something akin to that no one was interested in a girl playing bass the style she wanted to. So she went on and founded Gacharic Spin :D When talking about the band's writing process, Angie often describes how hard they struggle and work to reconcile the ideas of each member, to create a common conception of a song and a version everybody is really happy with. I have the impression, that Angie's presence has stirred up the dynamics quite a bit ;)

I appreciate that you react to all the variety of GS catalogue and provide commentary that does justice to the skill and creativity to this extraordinary band. Replica is an incredible masterpiece of music. It takes an experience in life and transforms it into a musical message. The message is about anxiety and confusion, isolation and loss of identity. It is extremely intense because of the intricate layering of the soundscape. In the foreground there is drums, bass and vocals driving with raw energy. In the background there is electrosonics, two guitarlines and support vocals creating this dark and moody atmosphere. No other band I know can transform a life experience into a musical message in this way.

Thanks for diving so deep on Gacharic Spin. They are one of the most creative bands I've ever heard, and they have had a social commentary element to their music from the beginning.

I love the sudden key change in the bridge, also that judge sliding bass line that takes several bars to resolve and adds so much tension

Unified sound is a great way to put it! Yes, it’s strange how the instruments combine together and normally I wouldn’t want that, but for this song it’s creating the atmosphere of the story as you said. I always feel like the build towards the end feels like a descent into madness! With Yuri’s drums getting more and more intense along with the additional vocal layers.

Thanks again for your thoughtful insights today. I really enjoy watching Mr.RC discover the new Gacharic Spin. Thanks also to Home Gnome! All members of the current Gacharic Spin can write lyrics and music. Since those members then come up with further ideas and brush up on them, it is only natural that a wide variety of songs are produced. However, it is surprising that "Replica" "Kachi-Kachi yama" and "Rabbit Hole" are composed by the same person taking the lead. That is TOMO-ZO.She may be an alien...

Replica is more a piece of art than a piece of music - it creates a mood, tells a story and takes you on a journey. The lyrics are great, the MV artwork is spectacular and everything fits together perfectly. Their choice to suppress the chords in the chorus makes it even more atmospheric. You can hear the intended chord progression on a couple of shorts, where you can hear the guitars standalone, also on their live performances. And if you compare this song to their other single from W (Kachi Kachi Yama), you can really say, that they are in full control of what they wanna achieve with a certain song (even more so, since they became self produced in 2021). Yes, Koga is front of center of the band, and deservedly so. No other band has such intricate bass work being a part of their compositions imho. There are other bass players, that are also outstanding, but mostly I feel they just excel as instrumentalists without their contributions being integral to the songs essence. Cheers :)
