Just love GWR, especially Churchward, way ahead of his time.

Great opening shot of a pair of pannier tanks emerging from the tunnel at Torpantau on the former Brecon and Merthyr railway line. The tunnel was one of the highest in the UK at just over 1,300 feet above sea level. The train had just completed the seven mile climb from Talybont on Usk. The train was carrying empty tanks to the ICI works at Dowlais. The tourist Brecon Mountain Railway uses part of this track bed and their terminus is about 200 yards from this point.

Nice video but I hate it when the researchers get bits wrong. Pendennis Castle competed with Gresley's A1 class not A3'. It was the result of the 1925 trials that Gresley developed the A3. Barry

No. The researchers are right. It was the A3 class in the exchange with the GWR, it lead to the development of the A4.

I have a feeling that those were the two Granges that pulled the final leg of our special from Leamington to Paddington (arr. 23:34). It was after steam was removed from Paddington and I was pleased at the polish applied to the green engines. If so, it was the LCGB High Peak Rail Tour, Saturday 18th Sept 1965 6861 Crynant Grange & 6853 Morehampton Grange.
