G-Spot Tornado - Frank Zappa - Roundhouse London 2010 Zappa Plays Zappa
Apologies for the poor filming, my view was limited, i was tipsy and i was not sure if i was allowed to film or not, hence I stayed in my seat with my limited view. But the important thing is the music. Music is the best.

When Frank wrote this, as well as most of his synclavier compositions, he felt that the music couldn't be played by humans. I'm glad that he did get to work with and see this work performed by Ensemble Modern. Long after his passing, lots of other orchestras took to it and made it work. I guess one of the main problems Zappa had with most of his orchestral work, let alone the synclavier pieces, was that he was footing the bill for every aspect of the performances. He really couldn't afford all of the necessary rehearsal time at union-scale rates to get a prominent orchestra to really get down to the business of playing his music as properly as it deserved. His relationship with Ensemble Modern must have been one with a lot of sacrifice from EM on their part, giving their time and effort to get his music played. This week will mark Frank's 25th anniversary of his passing. In that quarter century, many musicians and orchestral organizations have tackled his work with much success. That means they took the necessary rehearsal time to get it right. Frank didn't care if he was remembered. I think he would have to be pleased that he is remembered, and that his music lives on. RIP, Uncle Frank!

Zolar Czakl I especially love that the bassists get a lot of camera time - they are usually ignored, but very important for this piece! Well done.

INCREDIBLE! So many orchestral performances of Frank's music I've seen are either way too rigid like the musicians can't feel the underlying groove, or way too sloppy like the musicians don't take the composition seriously. This was neither of those, with powerhouse instrumentals to-boot! Also, I'm sure Frank would hate the comparison, but I hear a lot of Aaron Copland in this piece when it's played live.

I have to say this is a better performance than the one given by the Ensemble Moderne. FZ would have been pleased.

Here as an orchestral piece this has a different SOUL to it. What Movie sequence would this be a good sound track for? Or maybe a ballet sequence? Otherwise, it's good music concrete.

So who are the performers? What group are they from? I saw Zappa Plays Zappa and it was a rock ensemble with Dwezzel.

The conductor should have turned around to the crowd before this and said.... "Here's one for the ladies....G-spot tornado!"
