G-SHOCK GBD-H1000 & Four Days Later...

It was back in high school when I wore one of those calculator watches. Decades later, yeah, I finally bought a Casio G-SHOCK GBD-H1000. This is a newer watch for Casio and it joined the G-SHOCK Move series for various reasons...

It is a pretty tough design as most G-SHOCK watches have been over the years. I hope to do a 5K run test to gather more HR and GPS test data from the GBD-H1000 and compare it to Apple, Garmin, and Polar statistics...

Yeah, about that setup… the fact that Casio released multiple apps into the Google App Store was confusing. Secondly, this is my first Casio watch in over two decades. Third, it is my first G-SHOCK Move. And fourth, yes, I was a bit too tired 😴 and should have waited to unbox 📦 the wearable. Many weeks have passed by and this GBD-H1000 has become my digital friend (of sorts). Gadgets tend to grow with or against their human counterparts after seven to 19 days. Sometimes it takes longer and lately shorter time frames for me before that honeymoon phases terminates. Learning to navigate the Casio’s watch UI and the app were not as intuitive as Apple, Samsung, Fitbit, or even Garmin. It was not the worst experience by any means, yet, I feel Casio has many improvements. I will have a few more videos about this G-Shock coming out soon. Thanks for watching Simon 👍🏻

After wearing Samsung, Garmin, Apple, Fossil, LG, Withings, Polar, and a few others, yeah... the quality bar is pretty high when I take a watch for a spin, run, swim, or just a simplistic walk. I look forward to testing more of the G-SHOCK wearables later this year.

I have not used the other two, nor had to work with Casio directly. The G-Shock GBD-H1000 I purchased months ago is my first Casio anything in years. Yeah, to do it over again I would not have purchased the Pro Solar edition for the solar charging is a bit of a gimmick after my solar charging tests proved how SLOW it trickle charges in direct sunlight when not even moving. Anyway, the sapphire screen is the way to go and skip that solar-panel ring and the Garmin Power Glass. Perhaps, in the year 2023 Garmin will create a partnership with General Electric and make a more useful screen that can charge the watch 10% per hour instead of the Garmin Fēnix 6X Pro Solar currently and how it can only charge about 1% after four hours... Yeah, there was some altimeter functionality, but it was not accurate enough to rely upon for anything of use. This was watch was one of the first attempts by CASIO to enter the smartwatch market and it was a failure in my opinion. I sold mine nearly two years ago for $275.00 and lost over $130 in the sale. Luckily, yes, the lovely KZread ads made up for the difference. When Casio announced the H2000 series, NOPE, and a hard pass was my quick decision. I do like many of the hundreds of timepieces CASIO releases, but this one was a bust. The poor quality heart-rate sensor alone was enough for me to part with the quasi-smart sports watch with a confusing app...

You are... most welcome. I highly recommend the COROS APEX 2 Pro, an Amazfit Cheetah Pro, or the Garmin Instinct 2X Solar. Out of those three the Instinct 2X series by Garmin looks the most similar to a CASIO GBD series. And the Garmin solar charges and lets you know by how much using log files. I was able to find a brand new Instinct 2X solar last summer for around $360.00 USD.

NOPE! That is definitely not an Apple product and the packaging looked horrific for a $400.00 timepiece even if it did come from Casio. I think you should return that G-SHOCK and never look back. The Apple Watch 7 will be announced on 09/14/2021 and you may need that extra cheddar to purchase one 😁🙄😲

I do have my eyes already on the iWatch 7 and looking forward to what Apple brings to the wearable market next week. Sadly, yes, I already contacted Casio and told them I need to return the G-SHOCK GBD-H1000. They gave me another few weeks to reconsider...
