Lots of old rangies in Australia. We even manufactured them between 79-85. No where near as many as the cruisers but it’s basic economics, cruisers are a lower price higher volume product.

That's because these days cars like this are not seen as SUVs, they are seen as tools. Proper off road vehicles, unlike modern SUVs. That is also why the modern equivalent of these models cost 25% to 50% more than the SUVs on the market.

People are always talking about The lack of reliability of Land Rovers. The things is that every car needs maintenance to work properly. We could also discuss land cruiser 4-d4 engine problems caused by leaking injectors and clogged oil filter. These faults lead to complete engine failure. Not to mention "The Euro IV engine versions which had the serious problem with cracked pistons. It usually happens between 60-100k miles (100-150k km). That problem is characterized by the presence of black smoke, strong knocking noise, high crankcase pressure and loss of power. Also, there is a problem with injectors itself. The common rail system is sensitive to fuel quality. But even with high-quality fuel, the injectors can fail around 80,000 miles (120,000 km)."

The Land Rover in terms of suspension blows blows the Merc and Yota out of the water. The older ones as shown are actually incredibly reliable except for a head gasket problem that plagues higher mileage ones (180K+). Aside from that the only real downside about rovers is they lack locking front and rear differentials although this is quite easily compensated for by the sheer articulation you gain over the other vehicles.

All these little toyota fangirls in this comment section jeez. The land cruiser isn't God's gift to this world, land rovers are better or equal off road in almost every category, people love to shit on the rover v8 for it's head gasket issues they forgot that diesel engines exist for these cars too. And the head gaskets can be relatively easily fixed as it is a simple engine. LR reliability went down the drain when it was bought by bmw and later ford.
