G-Body Chassis comparison by Schwartz Performance

Your original G-body chassis is extremely weak, heavy, and takes a lot of work to get it to work out right. You'll spend less time messing around by using one of our bolt-in G-Body chassis! Our G-Machine Chassis incorporates modern technology such as coilover shocks, rack and pinion, 9 inch posi, and big brakes to get you the handling and ride quality you'd expect from a modern car- but in a package that fits your G-Body!

    not to be that guy. But doesn't having one on the chassis on rubber wheels, and on the suspension, and the other chassis on jack stands with the contact points to the floor at different spots make a tremendous difference in this demonstration? I'd like to see them both setup as rolling chassis on the same wheels and tires (or close). When doing any sort of testing you want to remove all variables from the control. (the control being stock). You added variables.

    Isnt this chassis over 20,000 usd? that buys alot of suspension upgrades to stock chassis. 900 usd will get all new sway bars, bilstein shocks, bushings and lowering performance springs. for a few hundred more you can get some chassis stiffeners.

    Chad Bullock you’re right, stock frame is fine for a street driver. We are just showing how our frame is much stronger in torsional rigidity. Once you really start beating on the stock frame, especially if you have T-tops, there are problems that can arise. Usually sticky tires will show those issues first. The suspension and steering geometry in stock config is terrible. There are a lot of benefits to our chassis, not just the strength. They handle better and ride like a modern car. Check out our website for some more details if you’re interested! www.schwartzperformance.com

  • @Impalaman1968

    @Impalaman1968

    6 жыл бұрын

    trankillodad I hate to be the deliverer of bad news, but unfortunately, your Chrysler Cordoba is NOT a full perimeter frame vehicle. Your car, like ALL Chrysler products since around 1960....is of a Uni-Body construction. Meaning that there is no separate frame. The structural rigidity is supplied by integrating the frame rail structure into the floorpan of the body. Henceforth, you don't have a separate body and frame. Unfortunately for you, this means that in order to have a solid, separate frame, you will have to fully remove the stock floor and frame rails, and have a full custom tube chassis fabricated. Sorry for the bad news, but this is the only way to accomplish this. Unless you are TOTALLY in LOVE with this particular car, be prepared to spend a LOT OF MONEY meeting your goals, it's definitely obtainable, and a qualified chassis/race car shop could perform the necessary modifications. I would suggest contacting Jeff Schwartz via email or phone and discuss the options that are available for your car. If he can't do it himself.... ( it seems that GM chassis are his forte) I'm sure that he can refer you to someone who can. I hope that this helps!

    '82 Cordoba is an '80-'83 Chrysler J-body along with the Mirada and the Imperial of those same years. It also shares a lot with the F and M bodies (Aspen, Volare, Diplomat, some years of Fury, New Yorker, 5th Avenue) but probably not enough given what you'd need.

    stephanwilliams41 - Hey Stephan. They’re not for everyone. However, if you understand that the stock G-body frame is weak, plus the suspension geometry is poor, you can then see the advantages in going with a performance chassis system. This is a one-and-done approach, alleviating additional frame or suspension upgrades. Regardless if you believe it’s a poor investment, it’s one of our best sellers and very popular for the pro-touring G-body crowd. Take care!

    @@SchwartzPerformance if you were racing, maybe you would have a point. But to build an ls swapped cruiser you shouldn't rob people with an over prices, over rated setup.

    stephanwilliams41 Sorry you don’t understand the benefits entirely.. they’re not for a general LS swapped cruiser. Our chassis handle and ride like a modern sports car. They’re not overpriced when you add up all the equivalent bolt ons you could put on a stock frame.. which are just band aids in essence. You can brace the frame, which adds weight. You can’t fit a 345 wide rear tire on a stock frame either. 90% of our customers don’t race, but want something that performs better than a stock one could. Like I said, they’re not for everybody but there’s no need to bash our product when you haven’t really deciphered the details and pricing comparison.

    @@SchwartzPerformance I'm not bashing your products Sir. I'm bashing your pricing. I think it's highway robbery. You do not market to the everyday common builder who wants a good product for a decent price, and who doesn't actually mind pay a little more for a great product. But you only market to the rich who could care less on blowing 15-20 on something that's not worth the price

    stephanwilliams41 Our chassis by itself is $5600. Suspension, brakes, rack and pinion, new rear end, coil overs... all those items are standard retail prices. Yes they’re not for everyone. If you have a $8k budget then you have no choice but to use cheaper products and a stock frame. We cannot sell you a chassis with components for $8000 when the brakes, shocks, and rear end retail for $8k from those respective manufacturers. There is no highway robbery, there is nothing overpriced, it just is what it is for a quality engineered system. I know you know of G-body guys who spend $10,000 on wheels but nothing on their chassis or brakes.. all depends on where you want to put your money. Again I’m sorry you don’t see the value in our kit but that’s okay and you’re entitled to your opinion. Hope my explanation at least gave you some insight as to what the actual costs of parts are.

    Rick Williams Jr. Yeah??? How about you stop by our shop and I’ll show you a comparison in person. I’ve got a couple G-body chassis around. That way you can see first hand how flexible they are.

    Im not trying to hurt your product...but the test I see is a bit bias. the fac frame has a full suspension and four tires on it. you have a jack stand under the front crossmember in the center. its on the tires at the rear. when you twist the front corner its gonna twist that way. you have your frame full suspension no tires with jack stands at each corner, not resting on the suspension at all, so its a bit set up. yours looks like it could be more rigid, just not as much as you claim. and some flex is good. its helps ride quality for street rididng.

    Rick Williams Jr. If you look closely the stock frame is completely off the ground. So you’re wrong. Yes it has tires on it but otherwise the test is identical. If you know anything about G-bodies you’ll understand that the stock frames flex too much. It does not enhance ride quality versus an engineered suspension. Can’t you see around 1:00 that the stock frame flexing is also moving the rear tires? How would that be possible if they were in fact on the ground? You can also see the jack stands. Thanks for contributing. 👍🏻
