I put 20K miles on mine, always (100%) started 1st thumb of the button. Never needed choke except on the very coldest days. I'd start it without choke, hold at 2K for 30 seconds then it tick over like a Swiss watch. A beautiful engine.

I’m getting ready to restore an 87 FZX700 Fazer. This channel will be my go too!

Thank you! Ths smoke was comming from some oil residue on the exhaust. I did clean it with WD40 . I was verry happy with the way it runs.

Purging air out of the oil gallery, and making sure that oil will reach the cams

10W40 Mineral oil. I plan to change it after 1000km by 20W50.
