I agree, the carbon footprint is lower the longer they last. Carbon produce by the production of a new car, its use for say 10 years and its recycling. If you have say a 20 year old car, if it hasn't been crashed or rotten, theres no reason why it shouldn't be on the road, once its maintained well. So, just make new replacement parts, not new cars.

Couldn't wish to meet a nicer chap, he is local and a regular at our monthly classic car meet at the pub. Love the 541R and that little Austin 7 special is a belter.

Great philosophy, Fuzz: just drive them! That is why I prefer my all-original Citroën 2CV, with all its accumulated "life lessons" over a perfectly restored example. If I get another scratch, I don't lose any sleep over it. That does NOT mean that I ignore or abuse the old girl, but she gets driven. Cheers from Canada!

Nice tour, thanks for sharing 👍✌️😊💜 I love the Jenson! I don't like current batch of EVs, as lithium is a dirty supply chain from start to finish, all very emperor's new clothes imho. Fuzz is right about old cars and their CF, but tbh, Carbon Climate Change is an unproven theory, even in 4000 academic papers no absolute conclusions were drawn in fact we could be heading for solar minima - but I digress. When I had classics they were used several times a week too. I got into classic cars as my uncle owned several sporting, special bodied, Rileys - they were hard to get into and out of too😄 Also next to my uncles' old workshop was Bob Houghton's they restored all sorts of high end classics, ex F1 cars etc back then, and on a Saturday morning, they'd sometimes let me in to sit in some of the cars when I was a kid. My cousin worked for them at one time some years later, they now specialise in Ferraris. Happier times back then😊👍✌️💜

A fantastic taste in cars.

Good choice of practical cars. Great to see the Riley 9, can cover a lot of distance in a day in comfort. In my 9 Tourer all day at 90 Km /hr, with suitable gearing, (6 to 1) gearing drive all over Europe as they did for the Monte Carlo.

3:07 Dad had a book about add-on engines for bicycles (it was published in the early '50s, as was I) and something similar to that drop-down motor was in it. 70 years later and we do the same with electricity.

Super collection Fuzz, particularly like the Jenson, these are often overlooked because of the Interceptor, but are equally great cars, I remember them from the TV series Jason King, with Peter Wyngarde & I think The Baron with Steve Forrest, so you are in good company😊

I think I remember you Mr Townshend on a European car rally some 30 years ago ( 1995) the younger you 😆driving the Jenson 541 R in France as I commented to my Co pilot at the time ( we were in an Austin Healey) that one of the best looking motors on the Euro was the Gun Metal grey Jenson - or I’m completely mistaken and the bloke wasn’t you but a spitting image with the lady companion 😂😂

I have ridden a Solex and it inspired me to make my own 2 stroke powered bicycle which can do on a good day about 25mph on one gear.That Jenson though would be my pick .Yes they were crap brand new but very 70,s.I loved cars from that era.
