    ***** Or 200+ million in tiny Bangladesh... Looking at this list conveys why the US is so dominant: because it is a rich country with a huge population, and a huge land area to continue to spread out in.

    ***** Same goes for Russia. Although I do wonder if more of siberia will become available because of climate change. This, combined with the decline in mortality and increase in fertility, might stop the population decline. Russia saw it's first natural growth in 2013. Or they can annex areas like crimea which adds to the population too.

    ***** Yep, without the massive water engineering that has gone on over the last 150 years, the entire American Southwest would be an arid desert with a population less than 1/10 of what it is currently.

    convictiongenesis225 My friend, the world's population will never die because of low birthrates. Currently, our population will rise by roughly 2.4 billion in only a bit over 30 years. If the rest of the world had similar birthrates to Europe, then the population would stabilise, waste and pollution would decrease and the future would be a much more prosperous and optimistic one.

    zingzong4067 If Europeans decided tomorrow they wanted 6 to 8 children a household who am I to say it's wrong? Africa should do what's best for Africans. No ethnic group has the right to tell another about family size. You could easily replace Africa in your original statement with India, Brazil or Indonesia. The video spoke of COUNTRIES yet you single out the whole African continent. Africa is not a COUNTRY!

  • @panner11
    @panner117 жыл бұрын

    The reason why developing countries are rapidly gaining population is this: Basically, before modern medicine, countries had a lot of deaths, the main contributor being high infant mortality (a lot of kids dying before they grow up), so to compensate, families have a lot of kids to increase the chance that at least one kids survives and keeps the family going. Once countries are introduced to modern healthcare, they have a much lower infant mortality rate, but families continue to have a lot of kids as they have always done. This causes the birth rate to far exceed the death rate, and the result is a huge population boom. This is what is happening in Africa now. This happened in Europe and NA in the early 1900s and Asia in the late 1900s. So in the 1800s, European families did typically have 8 to 10 kids because it was likely that only 2 or 3 would survive. Modern healthcare allows all the kids to survive, but it takes a few generations for families to tone it down and have only 2 or 3 kids. During that time, a population boom occurs

    Correct. I'm surprised to see how many developing countries are now developed (I think I was still assuming what I learnt in school was still true to this day). The number or poor countries is falling and so will birth rates once they're kids all grow up healthy and they stop having 'spares' to cover possible deaths.

    +jbuggieee I moved from Australia to the UK earlier this year and have mixed feelings about Australia. Most of the press in Australia is controlled by 1 man, Rupert Murdoch. There are really stupid censorship laws that both major parties attempt to pass continuously. Many companies have folded in recent times such as the one I used to work for, my job being outsourced to Indonesia. There is increasing desertification, a hole in the ozone layer that has increased the amount of cases of skin cancer. Bushfires continue to ravage eastern Australian states. I lived in Victoria, one year over 300 people were killed and a couple of towns entirely destroyed. Water is scarce at times due to relying on basins. Significantly important rivers such as the Murray river are being drained and there is now an increased toxicity in it that is killing off native fish stock. The country relies heavily on mineral exports to China, however the people who own the mines (such as Gina Reinhart) use taxpayer money to fund the roads to the mines, yet avoid paying tax. www.smh.com.au/comment/budget-pain-not-for-millionaires-who-pay-no-tax-20140511-zr9o3.html Australia is a great place for a good education but with the natural ressources drying up, horrible disparity, many environmental problems that the current government has no interest in I could not safely recommend it. Perhaps a kiwi would have a better time explaining the situation in New Zealand.

Just as it was said at the beginning of the video, this projections are based on the on going population growth rate, birth rate and mortality rate, not in the economic expectations to the future on those countries, which is something that certainly no one knows (and even less, if this projections are 30 years from now).

    In 1900 did anyone predict that by 1950 there would have been two world wars and a great depression? I live in the UK and in 1900 my nation was the richest, most powerful on earth. The centre of the biggest empire the history of the world. 25% of the worlds population lived within it borders. The people of the UK thought this situation would last forever. Yet within 50 years due to the wars and economic downturns I have mentioned the UK was essentially bankrupt and divesting itself of its empire. I do not buy into this future prediction stuff because there are just too many factors to blow such predictions way off course. We now have antibiotic resistant viruses. There could be a virus out there that could wipe out billions of people. Wars, natural disasters, starvation, climate change. Who knows? Maybe the world will have 9 billion people living on it by 1950. Then again maybe it won't.

    More and more people... that's terrible! I think Europe and the United States should stop giving welfare for more than two children per family. About Africa... how in the world those people will have energy for sex after working hard all day and living in those conditions?

    Sex isn't for pleasure or whatever you think. In a less developed country, having kids increases the amount of labor your family has, which is essential for subsistence farmers or export crop farmers. The cost of raising the kids is quite low, at least in the short term (and people don't think long term when they don't have enough food on the table). Also, during a demographic transition, these values persist for a while even if conditions improve and labor becomes less necessary. Hopefully you are around 10 years old or so; otherwise I would be quite concerned with your education system (or perhaps basic common sense).
