Yes!! I’ve been waiting for you to see some Gone Fishing. It’s such a lovely programme. The bonkers humour of Bob and the patience of Paul. Plus the wonderful peacefulness of the British countryside. It’s such a wonderful programme. I adore it. Also has great backing tracks.

This is an absolutely delightful show ....... Bob and Paul, two old comedians who've both had serious heart surgery, just going fishing together, sharing stories, cooking food, haviong a laugh .... each week for the show they go to a different stretch of river in the UK, so beautiful scenery and often have some guest drop in who lives nearby to have a chat. Bob was always popular but it's this show that's made him into a National Treasure.

Years ago Jonny Depp was asked who's the best actor he'd ever worked with, his answer was Paul Whitehouse, the man is an unsung genius

@@malcolmrowe9003 The result was that Johnny got Paul an audition with Tim Burton which is why he ended up as a voice actor on the Corpse bride. Thing is in the fast show episode of comedy connections Paul said he actually preferred making his own series where he's in control in respect to contributing to writing etc, as opposed to Hollywood where you're doing exactly what they are telling you to do.

What's even better than cake? Stolen cake. It's a wonderful series. I will never get tired of Bob's constant battle with gravity.

It's glorious to have a show like this commissioned. It is sort of the opposite of what TV execs look for. In that it doesn't really have a narrative, it's slow paced, it has no real objective or destination. It is simply about just spending some time with some wonderfully funny people, with an endearing and genuine friendship. Paul and Bob nourish the soul, and make you pass yourself laughing.

Gone fishing has to be one of my favourite shows ever to be shown on tv, the chemistry between these to legends is fantastic.

I was walking my dog through a cemetery, reading the old headstones and found one of a woman dated the late 1800s with an inscription from her husband that said 'she did her best' what an accolade 😂

This is a fabulous programme. Paul is a great actor and comic. Two good buddies enjoying themselves peacefully after both suffered heart problems. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿👍

its a lovely programme , with 2 old friends messing and joking about with some beautiful scenery , its perfect.

This show is fantastic, a great balance between Bob and Paul's whimsical humour, some great footage of the British countryside and some genuinely heartwarming moments thrown in for good measure. I have never really been interested in fishing all that much and watched this show at first purely out of completionism (i watch anything with Vic and/or Bob in it) but it has actually made me slightly more interested in fishing too!

One of the best bits from Gone Fishing is when Bob does an impression of Robert De Niro. He's wearing a jacket similar to the one De Niro wears as Travis Bickle in Taxi Driver, and when Paul notices it he mentions that he looks like him. Instead of doing the classic "You talkin' to me" line Bob does a De Niro impression from Meet the Fokkers.. 😂

If I had to describe the feeling of watching Gone Fishing, it would be; like sitting by a campfire with your best friend, after everyone else has gone their own way, and reminiscing. Telling stories you may not have told before, and finding them funnier, because of the company, as you sink into an ever more comfortable seat. The world is good. And away!

I love this series, its just good and gentle humour by 2 very loved comedians reminiscing about their lives which is quite moving at times.

I loved these series with Paul and Bob, every episode they would go to a different location where Paul would try and teach Bob how to fish for specific fish species found in that location. Every episode they would stay together in a different unusual dwelling, like a caravan, a converted double decker bus, a yurt, canal boat etc. Paul is a brilliant comedy actor and writer, he used to work with Harry Enfield on the Fast Show, a comedy sketch show with some characters that stayed throughout the whole series. Johnny Depp was a massive fan of the Fast Show and even had his manager to call them to ask if he could do a cameo role in one of their sketches. After working with him, Johnny Depp actually said Paul Whitehouse was probably the best TV character actor in the world.

This show is great tv. Bob does talk about his childhood in it including the tragic death of his father and he also falls down a lot.

You seriously need to react to Paul Whitehouse in the Fast Show., especially his character Rowley Birkin. It’s comedy genius.

One of the best TV programmes ever. Funny, gentle and at times extremely poignant. Just renewed for a fifth series. They travel the beautiful British countryside fishing various rivers.

This show is a balm to the show..Bob’s unique humour and beautiful countryside..perfection 😁

Well that's bloody weird - I'm watching "Gone Fishing" on TV right this moment. Into the bargain, I was actually thinking, "I wish there was an American reaction to this, but if there was, they probably wouldn't really get it." Personally, I love their off-hand gentle humour and obvious affection for each other. The series was based on Paul Whitehouses' concern for his chum Bobs' recent heart operation - Paul having had the same problem some years before. Bob Mortimer likes nothing better than sitting in front of the TV and eating meat pies, and Paul wanted to get Bob into a healthier lifestyle, and so took him on a fishing holiday.

Sorry, double-posting but thought I'd fill in a bit more of the background based on some of the other comments. Yes, its correct that Bob and Paul have both had major heart surgery, but Bob's was extremely close to being fatal. The artery that was blocked in his heart, and the proceedure to bypass it is collectively referred to as "the widowmaker" for exactly the reasons the name would suggest. After going through the surgery and recovery process, Bob felt the vulnerabilty and fragility of the human body for the first time and was hit with a combination of fear/paranoia about doing anything to make matters worse, and a bit of depression as a result of feeling that vulnerability. Paul, who had his surgery some time prior to Bob, took him fishing as a means of getting him out of the house and back into the world, and not only did this work but it also spawned the show Gone Fishing and ignited Bob's appeal with a more modern audience as he did shows like 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown and Would I Lie To You? Bob credits not only Dr Christopher Young as the surgeon who perfomed his bypass, but also Paul Whitehouse for saving his life as a result of this.

Paul and Bob are old friends and both are comedians. After heart surgery Paul Whitehouse asked Bob if he would like to take part in this "gone Fishing" series. It's a beatifully shot and gentle series and shows you some lovely counrtyside of the UK. When Bob made Paul write lines about not kicking his chair he was taking off the teachers from past school days. The Wagon you referred to is a gypsy

tbh you have to see the episodes in their entirety. It is not a series with full throttle comedy, but gentle funny exchanges between two old mates on the riverbank. It is a wonderful show.

They are just two good friends enjoying their later years fishing and having a chat,they both had heart problems and Bob had heart surgery or he would've probably died,Bob was born in Middlesbrough in the north east of England and at one time he was a trained solicitor (lawyer)

Well Done Guys. Paul is a tremendously talented Actor , Mimic and Comedian( Johnny Depp said Paul was his favourite actor) and can be, typically, deadpan and dry, and sarcastic as is our British way. His TV Series "Harry and Paul" on KZread is a MUST watch. He is, also, a good Fisherman but as they are a little apart when actually fishing there is little dialogue so those Fishing scenes are unlikely to be in "verbal" best moments. They have recorded many Series with a different British location each time. Although in perfect health and not needing any Pills,I am,worryngly, 68 next week in London and older tan both of these 2 National Treasures:)

This is such a wonderful series. As well as funny it can be so emotional. Bob talks about his father a lot who he lost when he was young in a truck crash. It really is a special show.

They occasionally do some fishing, but it's mostly two old friends being daft, and cheering eachother up after they've both had life saving heart surgery.

There was a famous British commedian called Spike Milligan, and he wanted "I told you I was ill" on his grave stone, but British law would not allow it so his family had it translated to Gaelic, it is one of the most famous grave stone in the UK, Spike was a comedy genius.

This Show is best watched when you wake up early on a Sunday morning, get a Coffee/Tea a couple custard creams and relax while the rest of the family are asleep, its so relaxing and the British countryside at its beautiful best...

It's actually a great show to watch, it's so laid-back with just two old friends doing different kinds of fishing, having a laugh at each other and some funny stories, a great relaxing none demanding show

the whole show was to highlight living with heart problems/heart attack and how it changes you....the show is so funny....i had heart attack in 2016 age 48 and it messes you up...people dont understand.....your whole world changes.what you can cant do etc...im not allowed to let my heart rate go over 110 ever

Fantastic show two old buddies fishing sharing stories sometimes funny sometimes heartfelt but always making you feel peaceful and good about life. I remember watching it in 2020 when I had long COVID because somehow it just made me feel better.

Well done on reacting to this. As others have said this is such a lovely show. However, as it's quite gentle comedy and heartwarming tv, I reckon this is one to watch and enjoy on your own time.

A bit of context to the show, Paul Whitehoues( The Fast Show, Death of Starlin) fishes as a hobby, when Bob had his heart attack a few years ago Paul asked him to join him. Bob doesn't know anything about fishing. When they decided to make a show about it, Bob's role was to arrange accommodation and make the lunch and dinners. That's why he's in a gypsy's caravan, lighthouse, converted railway coach. A lot of the funniest bits are when Bob's cooking Paul's dinner.

This is a great show. I think it's in the 3rd season now. It's just genuine. There's hardly a script, and what is scripted is a small segment that explains the health issues they both have and what they've done or doing to overcome and deal with it. It's just 2 old friends out fishing and just chatting about random nonsense like any other 2 blokes would. So refreshing to see shows like this in a world of fake news, fake shows, fake people. lol

Bob’s autobiography title come from this programme when they release a fish after catching it - And Away! This is a great ‘gentle’ programme. Totally recommenedd

Gone Fishing is one of those shows that will never be made in Yankland. It hasn't got guns or explosions. Its two men talking life and fishing. Its just wonderful and full of life.

This is such a fun show and it’s just really relaxing to watch. It’s just two mates pissing about by water. If you want more Bob, you should check out his podcast - Athletico Mince. It was originally started as a football podcast but that was quickly dropped in favour of just being mental

There are lots of places here in the uk where you can stay in novelty accommodation like Romany Caravans, old Train Carriages, Red London Buses. They are usually on farms where people have bought them to decorate and rent out for fun

Bob grew up in Middlesbrough in the North East of England, in its prime an Industrial Hercules. In its decline, you can equate it with the rust belt. Paul is actually Welsh, he moved to London when he was six. He got his love of fishing from his Father. His Mother was a Opera Singer and Bob presented Paul a recording of his Mother singing at the Eisteddfod for his birthday.

Gone Fishing is one of the most unexpectedly heartwarming shows on tv. Except for the episode where they went fishing on a boat out on the sea, which was just Bob literally screaming. Truly premium tv.

I think if you had a day with Bob you would have a smile for the rest of the year.
