Future Skyscrapers Could Be Made Of Mud | Planet Fix | BBC Earth Science

Ғылым және технология

In episode one of the new series, 'Planet Fix', we explore why modern architecture's obsession with concrete needs a drastic wake-up call. Could using more climate-friendly materials, such as mud and wood, help us build a more sustainable future?

He just kind of breezed over how timber buildings can be made safe with regard to fire. Perhaps we could get a video going into that.

He forgot to mention, that huge 13th century mud mosque still stands because of the annual festival where an army of locals replenish its entire exterior with masses of new mud.

Maybe I miss something but... can we make mud building with some type of thin concrete casting to protect from water, or some other material that will stabilize it further?

Lime is usually used, besides many other techniques that ensure water is not an issue. In India we have hundreds of thousands of such buildings that have endured for centuries in some of the most humid and rainy places on Earth. It’s an art and craft with its own principles.

Stabilised mud blocks can be made using either a bit of cement, limestone or some other materials

8:50 how much less of CO2 is produced from all that heat that's required and used to melt down old cement to recycle it? and doesn't remaking it again simply end up with the same production of CO2 anyway?

The Future in which we’ll be more vulnerable to poverty, water scarcity, homelessness, passive racism, overpopulation and violence than we conspicuously are nowadays. Even the old generation who put much expectations out of our era, didn’t yield any kind of advantages. Let’s settle this we even can’t afford our property rents, water/electricity bills compare to what we were demanding on owing residences 20 years ago. That terribly ended up in a financial crisis so we stay where we’re rather than playing on people’s interests.

@@jakelittle1261 Don’t apply your poor experience on others’ life it’s irrelevant. I depict my own status which is worse than my ancestors’ so do the reasonable proportion of people right now. It’s not our fault that your grandparents led a deadly world wars in several years in order to colonize or enslave other nations through gross greed intentions. If you wanna contribute please be relevant in which we can debate some points here.
