Future Gas Strategy: The Real Story | Richard Denniss
The Government's Future Gas Strategy is a future climate disaster. It's hard to believe in 2024 we still have Governments pretending we need to expand fossil fuel production to “help tackle climate change”.
"This is a plan to expand the industry that's causing climate change, and we're greenwashing it and calling it a solution. It's sick."
- Richard Denniss, Executive Director of the Australia Institute.

I can’t express how maddening this is. I’ve had enough of it. I’ve been a life long labor voter and even a member of the party at one point. This will cost my vote. The politics and bullshit is just too much. At this point I’ll vote for anyone who will hold these corporations to account. It’s just utter insanity.
More disapointment from the mob we thought would change things for the better.
Being Western Australian, I can assure you that a Labor government can (f*@&) the environment with the best of them. Our one government system with two shades of shite needs an overhaul

Thank you Dr Dennis on your presentation. It is a sad state of affairs that Albanese and ALP have failed the Australian people. The ALP has sold the Australian people out and it’s clear that the ALP and Albanese iis not able to head up the ALP. 👍💥💥💥 💥💥🇦🇺 yes it is sick
We are going to need gas "peaker" plants in Australia for quite a few more years, but there's no case, let alone and environmental one, to keep growing our gas exports. Albanese is eager to make easy political capital from things like domestic violence, but isn't willing to spend any of that capital on issues like climate change.
Nothing happens till the RUNNING & SCREAMING! ... then the dying.... but don't worry the Rich will be fine.
Labor lost my vote just after they got into office, the subs deal failing to properly deal with the housing crisis and the watering down of the federal ICAC. Now just yesterday they showed their hand by turning their backs on the unemployed and pensioners and now this environmental disaster, oh and when did gas become renewable?

Thanks Denniss for highlighting the lack of strategy in the future gas strategy. Clearly the Albanese Government have been captured by the gas lobbyists on this vital energy policy. We need a public interests test before more of our gas is approved for export
Very informative video - thank you for making us aware!
Speaking truth to power! Why do we risk allowing ourselves to be hoodwinked!!
The Labor government has done some good things, however their record on environmental issues is extremely disappointing. The continuation of harvesting of native forests and land clearing is a related issue that is mostly ignored. How can we possibly expect CO2 emissions to reduce when governments allow the destruction of the trees that absorb CO2 and produce oxygen. It's absurd. It's almost as though we have to continue to degrade our environment because it isn't cost-effective not to do so. It's getting hard to be optimistic.
Thankyou ❤️
Thanks for the truth

How can you get this message into the mainstream? Everyone should be marching on the streets. There is so much wrong with this country and so much wrong with the 2 main parties. The days of political apathy should be over and people need to vote accordingly.
Labor is gone.
Uranium, gas or coal take your pick...solar and wind wont power this country alone...why are electricity bills constantly rising...because renewables are so efficient?
You can't produce most of your electricity from intermittent renewables without sufficient gas backup, which Australia doesn't have and is not investing in. Gas is a transition fuel that is absolutely necessary if you want to rapidly decarbonise.
@froggy0162
15 күн бұрын
Gas demand for electricity is declining as renewables are rolled out and increasing. Existing gas supplies are more than enough.
The only way to lower greenhouse gas emissions is to open up new gas fields and new coal mines.....the Albanese government 🤪
Economic blackmail by the fossil fuel industry trumps forward thinking politics again. I don't get it , whatever economic gains, it's electoral poison. But what alternative? Wish the Greens didn't have so much bad stigma and more fiscal credibility.

The Mad King is truly mad (or captured).
One explanation: It all boils down to financial returns, i.e. more gas ducts explored more wealth created hence more taxes for the present Gov..
need to calm down...
Increasing gas extraction does not increase emissions. Users of gas will find an alternative supply, so emissions will remain unchanged, but Australia will miss out on the export revenue, which is currently providing $13B per year, plus tax revues from direct and indirect jobs. Gas is needed to provide peaking, to firm up intermittent renewables. Without it, supply becomes either unstable, or we are forced to use expensive storage. That is why we need more gas to get to net zero. "This is not complicated". The Australia Institute are not telling you the truth.
@NathanCroucher

"Increasing gas extraction does not increase emissions." lol as long as its kept in big bottles and never used. "Gas is needed to provide peaking, to firm up intermittent renewables" Not to 2050 it dont. This will cost labor votes, and as powerful as the gas lobby is a gov isnt going to throw away an election for them. It makes no sense why this policy is so extreme.

Methane has 4 times the greenhouse pollutant effect of carbon dioxide. If it's out of the ground it is being burned. The whole point is to leave it in the ground and rely on renewable energy. Grow a brain.

@jinnantonix4570

@@captainawesome2226 but we can't rely on renewable energy, because it is intermittent (inherently unreliable) ... we need gas for producing "peaking" power when the sun is not shining and the wind is not blowing. Storage (battery and pumped hydro) is too expensive. That's why Australia and our gas export customers overseas need gas to reduce emissions. Grow a brain.
