Fusion Reactions: Back to the Future II

For Fusion Energy Week 2024, we asked ORNL fusion scientists and engineers to react to depictions of fusion energy in pop culture and separate fusion fact from fiction.
In Part One of the "Fusion Reactions" series, they examine the "Mr. Fusion" device that powers Doc Brown's iconic time-traveling DeLorean in the classic Back to the Future movies. Could a fusion reactor really run on trash? What fuels fusion in real life? Would a fusion reactor that small even work? Our researchers answer all that and more.
