You are a genius. The neck transitions are the best I've seen to date on any CAD model. I learned so much in the 3 videos! Thanks for taking the time to help others. Best wishes.

agreed... You are a creative genius Brad...after figuring out Rails Thanks to Jeff Strater at Fusion 360, Jeff is extremely helpful.. My sketch was a mess because of fighting Rails.. Jeff is so nice and can see through your / my mess.. fixes the problem and can have you on your way with Rail.. in an instant... took what I leared from jeff along with Brad's genius Idea here and now I'm created some serious neck to headstock transitions.. Thank you so much. Rails are a serious frustration in Fusion.. So, If you're New, you should Check out Jeff Strater At Fusion360... Thanks again..

I would never have thought to use that method to create the on the back of the headstock transition. I wondered what you were doing at first and then it appeared like magic lol Nice work.

Thanks man! you solved me a whole lotta problems here, in a simple and clean way. I spent a lot of time adjusting those side rails AFTER I did the loft, instead of simply create the basic form and then cut it. I still have to figure out the final fillet, that for those strangely shaped edges is clearly difficult for the software to calculate and solve.

Update. With this cleaner shaping the fillet turned out beautifully. Thanks so much again.

This is the best by far, i have seen... but :D sitting on my neck, as i need mostyl angled neck and the transition around the nut to the angled headstock kills me, since hours :D

  • @tusharjamwal
    @tusharjamwal10 ай бұрын

You should probably start the neck widening a bit farther into the headstock so that the fretboard does not start curving outwards behind the nut and has only straight lines which will be easier to make.

Hi Brad thanks for the hard work you've put into this, I have downloaded your Guitar Engine into Fusion and I've used it to draw a bass fretboard for a build do you have any instructional videos on how to use it to manufacture the drawing please? Thank you👍🏼

Absolutely brilliant and perfect timing!!! I have been struggling to say the least. Is it possible to design different fretboards without going back and doing the whole neck over again? Thank you thank you thank you!!! Another question, do you have to use the fretboard add-in, or can you work from a regular sketch of a neck outline?

  • @benhorton1708

Brad thank you so much for these videos and the add-in you created. It's people like you who make a difference. I am having difficulty with the headstock transition where the rail splines intersect the end splines. I get an error that the rails don't intersect the profiles and the loft fails. Do you have any pointers for overcoming this?

I would also like to see the add-on put us in standard x,y,z (with z up). Maybe it's easy to change, but I'm to slow to figure that part out :D

Excellent job my friend! Do you have a video on how to set this up in manufacture workspace for a machine without tool swapping? You know… for us CNC noobs? Btw, do you have a pattern or anything where we can donate to the work and completion of your add-in? It’s awesome!

Thanks so much for these tools Brad. I started at the beginning of this tutorial (part1) and could not get this to build the fretboard on the x-y axis. I have my preferences set up as z being up. The only way i could get it to build is with the Top looking down, it is the high E side view. Will this ultimately matter when I go to put together the carving instructions together? If so is there an easy way to rotate the entire design to be oriented correctly? Also What was my mis-step initially? Sorry for the uneducated questions, trying to figure it out as I go. Thanks again!

Same question...the neck build seems to end up being on one of the long edges, with regard to the x/y axis'. The z axis is representing the fretboard width right now but needs to represent the radius of the face of the fretboard. This having been said, fantastic stuff! This will save a ton of work, even if it has to be copied as CAD and reloaded in & scaled in proper orientation to arrive at desired CAM.

Fusion 360 will not let me choose the bottom plane and draw a line on the round part from 12th to 1st fret. Any idea why?

Brad I have tried this several times Do these things not work the same in the latest version of your plugin. So many surfaces are not working etc. OR is it the new version of Fusion that is driving me nuts. You select points in the transitions that are not there in the newest version. Like the nut slot sketch is not the same the nut slot cant be hidden or moved etc unless I split body etc. Out of my mind right now

Love the tutorials. Great techniques to do stuff. I had trouble doing my neck to headstock transition. Loft didn't recognise my second curve and wouldn't accept any rails other than the curve on the bottom of the neck. I have gone back to the video and remade it several time but to no avail!. But on the other side of the coin I am getting very quick at doing the rest of the neck!!! Richard

I'm facing the very same problem here! It's driving me nut! The weirdest thing is that in the video the rails don't touch all the profiles but somehow he got the ok button. I got the ok button " faded grey" :D

You can use a construction/origin plane to perform a Split Body function that should separate the fretboard.

Hey man how do you tilt the headstock like in a Gibson guitar. Leo Fender, while a visionary and one of the most important men in human history, had a lot of things wrong. Bolt on necks are a travesty, along with string trees. Gibson had it right
