For me telling my friends I'm a furry was billions of times easier than telling my family because I know all my friends don't give a shit, some of them think it's weird and make the stereotypical jokes but I actually ended up getting one of my friends into the fandom by opening his eyes to it, but telling my mom was an entire other can if worms for me

Telling someone you're a furry is a huge anxiety-generating thing because there's a lot that can go wrong and you don't know how the other person is going to react. It's honestly better to just kinda let it slip and treat it casually when it does than to "come out" and make a big deal out of it, because when you make a big deal out of it, other people make a big deal out of it.
