Ally, you are spot on about Romero. There is no way John Terry, Tony Adams or Steve Perryman would have allowed their goalkeepers to be treated in that way.If no instructions had come from the bench, they would have taken an on pitch decision to prevent it. Stronger more pro active leadership is needed.

Spurs fans just need to stay calm. 6 months ago Spurs were a basket case. Ange is now reprogramming the club and he will tweak things as he goes along. Give it time. Everton is a very physical game with a direct approach. The defense is a team thing not just the back 4...

I get Postecoglou’s point about them only scoring 2 out of 30 set pieces, but that in itself is not exactly a glowing reference in the fact that we gave them so many set pieces. The Kulusevski foul was a crazy one to give away.

They do need game time to improve too though. Skipp's been mixed this season but has had some good games. Gil had a better cameo last night I felt as I noticed he was trying to penetrate & play risky passes more compared to earlier games where he'd run for a bit then pass back when faced with opposition. Gil also seems to be very good at crossing.

@@Serpsss I would also disagree, they show passion to play but I think for Skip it might be a little too technical with the quick passing build up. Potentially could learn but he wouldn't be the same as say if you had Madz, Sarr and Biss starting then look to the bench, as there would be Bentencur (easily could be a starter) and hojbjerg (if you need to lock up). & For Gil, I personally just don't think he's going to be a prem player. When all are back even just having Werner, Son, Brennen, Kulu and Soloman. All of those would be above and we're still looking for the next level winger too.

Postecoglou does not tolerate running the clock down, taking the ball to the corner flag, putting the boot through the ball. He wants the ball played from the back the whole game and puts a lot of pressure on the players. It will pay off long term but that's why we are conceding late.

Great summing up of yesterdays game . The Vicario issue is a strange one , noticed in the Brentford game Romero was watching the player in front of Vicario and just ignored it . Must be they are told to not get involved with this , which makes little sense . Midfield is not clicking and causing issues at the front and the back . Difficult with Bentancur and Maddison not being fully fit but obviously being first picks .

The city goal and the blues goal came from players putting their hands on our keeper and shoving him. Then, both goals the players jumped backwards into Vicario. Yes, he needs to be stronger, as you can see, his frame for a keeper is quite slim and flimsy. But, I do find it odd that the ref and VAR would give fouls for similar on the pitch. We've also seen, multiple times, fouls given when players handle the keeper. It's really odd, as it's so inconsistent.

Thanks so much, Ali. Hope you had an enjoyable Sunday with your family. My comments today will be a tad lenghtly so please bear with me. When I lived in London, I was a season ticket holder (thanks fo the move to Wembley) but the matches I enjoyed most were the away games and the experience at Goodison Park with the was fantastic. The timber floors, the tight seating and the fact that Pele played there during the 1966 world cup really took me back in time. I guess it also helped that we won 6 - 2. Regarding the match, I think Pape is a key cog in the Ange machine. Without him, somehow the link between the defenders and attackers is a bit disjointed. No other player in the squad seems to be able to perform that role. Finally, does the influx of young foreign players like Lucas, Luka, Alejo, Radu, Ashley etc impact the roadmap for youngsters like Dane, Jamie, Jude, Yago, Will, Charlie, Nile, the two Alfies etc? Cheers, Ali. Take care.

The simple test of whether there is a foul for the goal, is whether, had Romero run across and blocked Harrison, would that be a penalty? It has to work equally both ways. Harrison clearly and deliberately stops the keeper getting to the ball. If a defender does that to an attacker in box, then more often than not, they give a penalty.

I hope they work on their set pieces to minimize weaknesses that teams will assume we have moving forward. They are young so I’m confident that Ange will teach them how to put a team to the sword when they’re up. If we ever want to win 🏆 like Liverpool and MC, they need to finish teams off like they do when ahead. Thanks again, Ali. COYS!

Also agree with this, he slows the play down so much, and takes so many touches before releasing the ball. He's become a pressing trigger for opposition players. Biss is press resistant so does the complete opposite and allows us to break the press, and then the forwards have much more space to move into behind. (Unless kulu also slows the play down on the right hand side which is also a massive issue). We don't have a quality back up 6 and that needs to be addressed in the summer and tbh I'm sure bergvall is highly promising but we needed the 6 over him this window. We already have werner, son, kulu, Johnson, gil who can all play out wide we don't need another undeveloped youngster right now. We need a challenger for bissouma

Hi Alistair, once again, a very insightful video, but being an Aussie I'm not one of those fans that wished Sonny any success what's so ever in the Asian Cup, Australia played the deep defensive block against South Korea who played like Tottenham dominating the possession and doing all the attacking, and Australia missed two golden opportunities to kill off the game on the counter attack in the second half and go 2 nil up, and then Sonny drew the foul for the South Korean penalty with about 1 minute remaining in normal time, and then it was Sonny who then scored with the freekick in extra time to win it for South Korea and set up a semi final against Jordan who both Australia and South Korea would fancy winning against and progressing on to the final, so I'm not a happy camper at the moment as I'd much prefer Sonny back to help Tottenham while Australia go on in the Asian Cup. Anyhow, regardless of that, I'd really like to see a midfield trio of Bissouma, Bentancur and Sarr as soon as possible with Hojbjerg being the player that comes on late in the game if we need an experienced hand to see out the finish of a game if we are winning, or a more attacking player if we are losing, but the sooner we get back Son the better because despite him, Bissouma and Sarr being absent we are still only 7 points of top spot after Arsenal did us a favour and beat Liverpool. Looking at the fixtures for the last 6 weeks of the season most fans would be thinking negatively like that will kill of our hopes of a top 4 finish, but I see it as the perfect opportunity to beat the other teams that we need to in order to have a big finish to the season, they are the 6 pointers that will ultimately decide where we are going to finish, and hopefully we will be flying by then with nothing else on our plate while those other teams will be slightly handicapped balancing out competing in multiple competitions. So summing up, despite Tottenham going through our toughest period of the season personal wise, we are still in a very good position on the ladder and still only 7 points off top and with a decent little points gap on the teams behind us, and with all our best players becoming available for us over the next few weeks I think there is a lot more to be confident about than not. Anyhow, keep positive as I think our season is shaping for a very good finish especially when Sonny gets back, so go Jordan and Tottenham. Cheers, Mark H.

Thanks for yet another insightful video, Ali. Saved this one for a trip i had tonight and, as always, you delivered, elaborating on all the little things that led to that "defeat". Only one thing I thought was worth giving more thought: Kulusevski's somewhat daft foul that led to the equaliser. Everybody in spurs colours on and around that pitch should know how Everton like to score their goals, with what means they are going to pressure you, especially in the last 10 or so minutes. So, giving away a foul that seemed like a bit of a frustration foul in such a promising position, at this stage in the game... In my opinion slightly disappointing, showing a lack of awareness of the opponent's threats, even if it was a spur-of-the-moment decision. A smart foul can be potentially game-changing (like Donley's vs. Brentford), but so can a daft one. Not sure if I'm alone in this POV, but in any case I think it's food for thought within the whole discipline issues topic.

I'd love to learn more about Ange's training. The guys are worked hard we hear, but then we were told that Poch did double training sessions and Conte got them super fit with that end of training pitch run in South Korea. Ange has made some tantalising comments about getting more players back from injury so training can be better - but how? We've heard they do the equivalent of 90min matches - but doing what, playing actual matches? And how do the attack, defence, goalkeeping and midfield coaches get their training messages across if they are playing training matches? Whatever the answer the results are self evident on match days. Individual skills have improved beyond measure compared to last year.

The problem is though, who does he replace…probably Romero at present, but he is vice captain, and expects to play every minute. VDV is playing too well to come out. Romero often gets caught out of possession, or in possession and his backward header led to the goal. Major problem IMO.

Yeah, although he plays well and aggressively down on the deck, Romero is comparatively weak with high balls and set-plays due to his lack of muscular bulk, something which Drag clearly doesn’t suffer from! Finally got round to watching this after that ‘defeat’ on Saturday. Yeah felt like a defeat. Still feels like a defeat. Something’s not been right in our play for a while. Probably due to all these injuries/suspensions/int’l call ups. But with players now coming back it’s time to get back on track. COYS

Maybe the Spurs fans will need to start chanting “DEFENCE, DEFENCE” when we’re leading and going into the final minutes. I love our style and bravery but fuck the system. When we need to - launch it and move out ‘en masse’. We also need to win ugly. Like Luton away, especially for the sending off. Showed grit. I still believe that we’re being punished collectively by refs for their own shit decisions (liverpool and city). Our players are sent off for fouls other teams aren’t. Teams constantly leaving a bit on our players. Our keeper left to hang - will be very interesting to see if other teams get the same treatment. If they don’t, then Vicario our the team need to adjust. Hoijberg and Johnson are better off the bench.

Hi Alasdair. It was blatant fouling and hindrance against Vicario the last two games. I guarantee if a Spurs player defends him, it'll be a penalty. Officials are blatantly turning a blind eye or call it what it is and has been through the season - cheating.

@@gyro1882 yeah, i think that the manager has to pull the team into traning and tell vicario they'll be running corners with draugsin, romero, and richie taking turns being a belligerent until he figures out something that works. You can't be looking to the ref for stuff like this. You need a strong plan A.

And on the topic of fouling the goalies..if we are allowed to foul goalies now then that’s fine but why aren’t spurs doing it as well? Put pressure on the official by leaning in to their goalie on corners. If the ref blows his whistle then remonstrate with him and put the seed of doubt in his mind

It isn't an "attention thing", it's a failure to consistently dominate possession and apply pressure throughout the match thing. By midway through the second half with Spurs looking ever less likely to get that essential third goal, the only thought going through my mind was, "I've seen this script before and I know how it ends." Their last gasp equalizer didn't surprise me in the least. What surprised me were Ange's defensive substitutions that must have sent a message to the players that said, "Let's just hold on to what we've got." Very un-Angelike, I thought.

100% agree that Vicario was fouled. Have played in goal many times and from the same situation where someone backed into me, it knocked my balance and I ended up with 2 fractures in my ankle. Obviously it’s not Premier League standard, but when your main objective is to take a players control and balance out of the game, it can lead to injuries and in all is just a bit of a dirty tactic in my eyes

  • @TheReverentSqualy
    @TheReverentSqualy3 ай бұрын

In regards to the backing-in at set-pieces, I feel that simply Spurs need to do it on their attacking set-pieces. Draw the referee's attention to it, and then the bar can naturally be set in the game for what's allowed. Let other teams know that Spurs have the stomach to give as good as they get.

Who the hell keeps telling me vacariois still young he is 27 not that young to not be able to boss his own area against players half his size, he needs to BOSS his area ! City played in the corner against us for the last 5 mins or so, they do that because City have lost far too many games in the last 5 mins. If it is good enough for the treble winners it should be good enough for Spurs !

It does ? I mean by standing still you can impede someone but that’s not a foul . I fking hate when teams play that tactic on keepers but I think we all kind of know what the line is when it becomes a foul. Only one that wasn’t consistent this season was in Man City vs Liverpool game. Can’t remember which end but was far too soft to give. I didn’t think city’s FA cup goal against us was a foul either. The one at Goodison was t even close. Vic needs to stop getting distracted and focus on catching the ball like he did in second half. I don’t think it’s a physical weakness I think it’s a concentration thing. Sorry for the ramble you comment just caught my eye. Big up and COYS 🙌

Thanks, Alasdair for another excellent video. It is worrying that Spurs have conceded so many goals late on in PL games. However, perhaps with the amount of added time now regularly being played in games then goals after the 90th minute should not be particularly surprising. Maybe players (not just at Spurs) need to adjust their mentality to expect longer games to be the norm and work on maintaining their concentration and ignoring the board that the 4th official puts up and just play to the (final) whistle.

I watched the Aston Villa first half last week and it’s obvious that Brennan Johnson is currently lacking confidence. In that game he was skinning the left back but now he either plays it backwards (like Emerson Royal) or gets rid of it with ill advised flicks. His goal v Brentford was essentially a run into the box and a tap in.

I did have Ritchie as my man of the match but when watched back noticed he was marking brantwaite at corner and stopped tracking him when Romero went for header which then left him free to tap in - may not have been able stop him but def could’ve made it harder it anticipated

@20:12 It too easy to use it as an excuse. The bottom line is that Vicario has to be stronger. If he was stronger and was still impeded, you could argue that the foul would be more pronounced and therefore the ref, or VAR after the fact, would blow for a foul. If Vicario continues to be weak, then that will continue to be the impression, and the ref or VAR will never blow for a foul, as the precedent is now firmly set in all referees' minds moving forward. @24:48 The fact that Andre Onana didn't get called for a foul on the Wolves forward, without even touching the ball, in the first game of the season answers that question, Alasdair. @32:30 This response is actually very positive, in my opinion. In the past the mentality of our players might suggest that a draw away is okay and we move on. The fact that this was taken as "lost points" shows aspects of a winning mentality. I just hope this is the feeling throughout the whole squad and we come back stronger moving forward. If Spurs hold their line until the ball is kicked, then the Everton players are a yard offside. In my opinion, this is where our defense on set pieces needs to be more intelligent and brave.

I see the late goals as a failure of game management, we need to be pragmatic at times. I had less of an issue with the Everton goal than the City one, there just seems to be no consistency. Either way we need to protect Vic more, which we largely did in the second half.

We need to consider context of games, but having crunched the stats when PEH has started games, we only have a 16.6% win rate vs a 70.6% win rate when he doesn't start. We have also lost 50% of the games PEH has started. He has his attributes but setting fast, attacking tempos and putting the opposition on the back foot from the 1st whistle is not one of them. A fast start is everything to the Ange system - it gets the team ticking. When we start slow you see us retreat back to the 'old days'. Starting PEH changes our xG from 1.9 per game to a 1.4 (-26%). It also increases our xGA from 1.6 to 2.0 (+25%). We desperately need Biss, Madders & Sarr fit for every game as when they've started we've won 78% of games and only lost 1 in 9

Yes, the Swedish season does start in April and ends in November, however, we only have 16 teams, so it’s 30 games and we have a break in June for pretty much the entire month. Also, Brommapojkarna means the boys of Bromma, haven’t heard anything about the name change but I’m sure you’re right about it (as they have girl teams too). Your pronunciation wasn’t bad but the j sound is pronounced more as a y sound, as in yellow :)
