Both are stories of survival in a desert landscape. In both stories we see people adapt to a harsh brutal environment. Fury Road and now Furiosa (which I saw yesterday) are arguably sci-fi in the way the films deal with the effects of nuclear radiation. Dune is clearly sci-fi. Both are action. Both involve warring factions, in Dune it's the Houses, the Emperor, the Bene Gesserit and the Fremen (and even arguably the worms are relevent in this sense) amongst others I might be leaving out. In these two MM films it's the citadel, gas town, bullet farm, and to an extent the green place, along with Dementus's gang. And of course all the leaders and subordinates are relevant. And there are even beggars or destitute in both films. I'm sure there are many more similarities. Both are serious films, even despite the surreal or over-the-top elements of the MM franchise. @@stevendufourI really don't think you've given these films a serious viewing if you don't see the similarities. They are extremely similar. Thanks

I'm not opposed to content warnings at all, but the only way to be blindsided by something like Poor Things is to have not seen a trailer, have no idea who the filmmaker is beforehand, or intentionally do absolutely no research in which case that's kind of the expected outcome. it was definitely signposted as an intense art film and I saw plenty of people who knew it was or wasn't for them before even releasing.

I remember people saying that Charlize was a locked oscar contender, but it came out in may in Cannes and it was a mainstream movie although extremely sophisticated. I think today, after Everything Everywhere All at Once, she would be nominated. Not only because the movies don't have to be necessarily released at the end of the year and also actors in big movies with nuanced performances can be nominated. So, after all the buzz and Theron's dedication to the role, seeing that she would not be apart of it again was heartbreaking. Even the backstory of this film is unreal.

Having a wasteland princess background is not necessarily a bad thing. In that regard it kindof has a Terminator feel to it. In T1, Linda Hamilton is the damsel in distress but by T2 shes a full on cyborg killing badass. Difference is that Terminator released in chronological order so the character growth is obvious. Where as in this franchise Fury Road is T2 and Furiosa is T1.

I skipped the first one, probably because of my distaste for remakes. But now I'm kind of interested in seeing this one. Watching this trailer in the theater, made me think that this movie is a remake of _The Road Warrior._ There's a refinery, tanker truck, big bad that sounds like Lord Humungus, and a guy with a flying machine. I don't know if the music from the first trailer is from the upcoming movie or something else, but it gave me goosebumps.

The bad green screen annoyed me in the tailers and as it sounds like, they couldn't fix that. For me the trailers looked like cheap/bad CGI in a lot of the scenes ... I will wait for this to be available on streaming. On the trigger warning thing. Sometimes it is a spoiler - dont know what shot it was, but when they had a "self ending" warning at the start I already knew what will happen in that episode. So ... if a movie is R rated - everything goes. On Poor Things - I think that was a great fantasy-comedy. Cant remember anything that is worth a warning - especially if you know Lanthimos' other movies.

I don't think bold is as big an topic with movies and shows like they used to be though. That has given way to, well, nostalgia. I won't mention names but a certain show feigned bold decisions, but pulled back every other second to the degree of undercutting the original bold decision to begin with... and that hasn't seemed to matter.... yet. It will be interesting to see how Furiosa does but I think it will be a-okay.

Taylor-Joy is also a big put off for me. Something about her on screen just doesn't work for me. Now i know Hemsworth isn't playing Immortan Joe i'm even less interested.

When this was announced I was very excited. Fury Road is one of my favorite films of all time. Then I heard about casting Anya Taylor-Joy & I was disappointed because I'm not a fan of her. I still put alot of faith in George Miller. Hearing Chris Hemsworth casting did get me excited again. After watching the trailer, I was once again let down. I was really hoping Hemsworth & Furiosa would be teaming up to fight Immortan Joe, only for Hemsworth to be killed & Furiosa taken by Joe. Thus fueling her actions in Futy Road. I do plan on seeing this & hope the stunts & special effects win me over. Hearing Anya Taylor-Joy isn't really in the film much is helping my opinion but I'll just have to wait & see. I just hope it does well enough to get another film sooner.

Great review. When I first saw them doing this film, I was so excited about it until I saw Joy was in it. I personally am not a fan of her work. I'm sure she's talented, but she's not my cup of tea. However, I do hope that it does well at the box office so we get more films, so I will do my part and go see it.

I thought the reason why George Miller's Justice League movie didn't happen was because of complications with the Writer's Strike and various filming delays.

It shouldn't have been Furiosa but Mad Max 2, his story hasn't been told yet in these modern movies. Furiosa should have been the third movie with a return of Charlize.

i think i had a similar feeling with chris hemsworth’s performance in bad times at the el royale. i’d love to see him do more nuanced character roles as well so i’m curious how y’all think he would do in a true detective type role? maybe with a series he can have more time to really dive into said character

Back in 2015 when things were good, the world felt way better than it does now, I saw Mad Max Fury road 3 times at the cinema. I kept finding bigger screens to see it on. I brought a 4K player as it was my first 4K disk. Now almost 10 years later I see nationalism and fascism sweep the world, people’s rights rolled back, a countries and people getting bombed off the maps for their land and a big suction of wealth and resources go to the one percenters. To top it all off, My dad and his wife, boyfriend and close friend all passed within a few years of each other. I don’t think I have it mentally to see something that might have grotesque violence in it.

Not sure about Furiosa, but Dune is made by Legendary Studios, NOT by WB. They are just a distributor which seem to receive a lot of credit for things they didn't make. Another example are Monsterverse films.

I think Fury Road was a great movie but I don’t think it pioneered blockbuster movies making it into Best Picture at the Oscar’s because they have done this for a long time it happened with Jaws, Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Arc, E.T., Lord of the Ring Trilogy, Avatar, District 9, Inception, Toy Story 3, Black Panther, Dune and I think Mad Max also fits into this but the academy has done this before Mad Max
