    I actually like the star wars micro style builds as a concept; some are better than other. But adding an exclusive minifig would really take them over the top, at least for me.

    I think, that the new May the 4th -sets are actually pretty cool, and a definite improvement. The Lego fandom is so obsessed with the figures, that they’ve forgotten what it’s all about. Most of the videos are just mini-figure talk, sets are rated by their mini-figures and the mini-figure prices skyrocket as people are willing to pay set prices for them alone. Pretty pathetic honestly. I’d love to see a shift towards a more MOC centred fandom, but I guess that it’s just much easier to collect and line mini-figures on the shelf.

    Yeah, Lego fans really obsess over the smallest things. Reviews for Bionicles often give them a hard time just because they use blue friction axle/peg pins and red 2-stud axles that clash with the rest of the colors in the sets, but I honestly don't see them as a problem and think the colors schemes look fine without them being distracting.

    That Lego Slave one was dear to me as a kid, and looking back, I actually like how simple the early star wars sets were. Back then Lego sets were expected to be blocky with simple colors and a lot of exposed studs. Whats interesting too is that for the parts of the build that are on the inside they used a lot of random colors, which was cool for adding a bit of variety to the lego bin they eventually ended up in.

    Hmm well the builds are cool! But I think the critique at hand is that May the 4th ALWAYS came with exclusive pieces. It was sort of a tradition. To then lose the yearly exclusive pieces is of course kind of irritating/a disappointment. By no means are the builds BAD, but this was about disappointment. And from that angle, yes it is a bit of a dissapointment.

I remember spending a whole day after building the monkey set tying string Bridges from different points in my house and then just letting the monkey go to town climbing across them. The stirring robot was cool as well, however the motors weren't powerful enough to do much more than stir in some chocolate syrup into milk. All together the sets were a blast to play with because not only did you get to build three different sets in most of them, but you could have endless hours of play and interaction with them beyond just your imagination

    @@TheGrejp Same, I still have all three motor sets from when I was a kid, I loved those sets even though my Record N' Play has few issues. Mine has the problem where it makes static noises from the piezo sounder when you turn it off, which would creep me out as a kid (this is a known issue, it tells you to reset it in the manual, but it's so old now that no longer fixes it). The robot build also has an issue where the head is attached to the reset switch, making go haywire every time it moves, often resulting in the hilarity of it running around until it knocks it's own head off. My wind up and electric motor sets are no longer complete (though I could Bricklink the missing pieces back). If you can find them second hand for a good deal, they'd make great parts sets for things like GBCs as well.

    The set still sucks though, even if it's accurate to the movie. For one, they could've just given us a full AT-ST with a removable top to replay the top breaking off. Secondly, the included "elevator/ramp" thing sucks and isn't even tall enough for someone to enter the AT-ST. And lastly, it's way too expensive for what it offers (which isn't much).

    I love how brainless Lego fanboys try to defend a set that is half an AT-ST but costs more than past AT-STs just because "I was like that in the movie." The only reason Lego made that set, and the only reason why that set sells is because it has Captain Phasma in it. Which is brilliant if you're a marketing guru at Lego, and disgusting when you're a fan who wants to collect Star Wars minifigures.

    In all fariness to the AT-ST one, in the scene in question, the top part of the cabin was ripped off, revealing BB-8 was piloting it. The set was trying to recreate the reveal rather than the actual AT-ST.

  • @VestedUTuber
    @VestedUTuber Жыл бұрын

    Ok, the First Order AT-ST wasn't trying to mimic the appearance of an _intact_ AT-ST. It's based on the scene where BB8 takes control of a heavily damaged AT-ST that's missing its cabin. I wouldn't say that justifies it but it's at least good to know what TLG was trying to go for with it. The funny thing about Znap being made to compete with K'nex is that later on, K'nex would come out with K'nex Blox, which was only slightly more successful as it effectively provided an adaptor between the K'nex building system and LEGO and its various clones. The sign board, being for LEGO Sports Soccer, seems to be designed as a swap-in piece for the full soccer field so that you could add your own custom signboards without sacrificing the originals. Final Duel II was actually part of a two-set combo, along with the even more disappointing Final Duel I, which was just Vader, Palpatine and Palpy's throne. Honestly, original Slave I wasn't a bad set for what it was, the issue was just that they didn't have the curved slope pieces yet. I'm kinda both surprised and glad that the Hypno Cruiser from Time Cruisers didn't appear here. A LOT of AFOLs seem to have this irrational hatred for Time Cruisers and to a lesser extent Time Twisters due to the whimsical, hodge-podge nature of the various sets from that theme. But the whole point of Time Cruisers was to kinda turn what a kid might make out of a random assortment of LEGO bricks into an actual theme, as well as kinda "linking" together the various other themes and providing a way of getting a lot of minifigure accessories that were slated to be retired soon. The series also had its fair share of unique colors and prints for otherwise common pieces. Galador... well, you can't blame LEGO for trying. And the theme did introduce the ratcheting joints that have become somewhat common throughout many themes.
