Big Jim is so legendary in every right. Lived and breathed nitro floppers his whole life, Chrysler Motor Co. should have sponsor him like they did for Big Daddy Don Garlit and Roland Leong.

Saw this at the ABC Drive-in (Oxon Hill, MD) with my Dad in July '75. It was co-feature to "The Outer Space Connection." The only time I ever attended a G-rated documentary double-feature.

Witnessed several Funny Car shows, plus a couple 'Super Stock Nationals' at York US30 Dragway in the late 60's/early 70's, great times.

Big Jim is still one of my heroes in drag racing. For me the 70's were a truly outstanding era for the sport. As much as I love the awesome spectacle of modern day racing . You just can't beat the old days when a regular guy and gal with a job could compete on the Big Stage. jm2c your mileage may vary 👍. P.S. If you never got to see Jungle Pam live and up close... well you missed out 😮. Just Saying

This looks like American Graffiti era racing. John Milner might pop into frame.

saw my first funny car as a teenager when they were fairly new - it was at a small town track - back then not much safey in place - we stood right at the track along side the car - never will forget the sound - like nothing I ever heard at small tracks - and ran like a rocket

Nelson Carter's beautiful Super Chief Dodge Charger bodied funny car, driven by Stephen Bernd, going into the wall........heart breaking. I don't know the outcome of that crash except that was the end of Carter's line of Super Chief drag cars of the 60s/early 70s era. I did read Nelson's February 2023 obit, and will submit that he was an outstanding person IMO. Thanks for sharing Funny Car Summer CompPlus.

I still remember as a kid , back then they didn't have water boxes , they would pour bleach on the slicks , these car's would do some super smokey burnouts , which really cool , but there were lots and lots of burning stinging eye's. To many complaints, that's when starting using water 😢😢
