All Jay had to say to the first caller was that unlike you, God created all of creation. Whereas the caller had his son and his cat, who he wouldn't sacrifice for anyone else because no one else had meaning to him. We are all Gods children made in His image and are all important to Him.

I laughed nearly this whole time. I’m new to the Orthodox faith. My wife and I and the kids have been going to a local Orthodox Church for a few months now and feel right at home. But I’m still very ignorant of a lot of everything. HOWEVER I can follow an argument and watching all these people crumble was hilarious. Good stuff, brother. God bless.

These are fun. I guess it depends on personality/disposition (for the most part), but I don’t get why people get upset with Jay when he asks for clarification. That’s the point. He’s trying to get you to justify your claim. I’m guessing these people who call in aren’t used to someone asking them to base their claims on something. Or they just go with something someone else said without truly thinking it through.

25:06 I have a BA in religious studies - I remember learning how every ancient culture had a memory of a flood story. Duh! The question isn’t what came first and somehow presuming that the first recorded account is most truth worthy. That’s stupid. The reason it’s stupid is because it’s not about who wrote it first… …it’s about who got it right. As well as what the author of the text interpreted it to be. A HuGE difference between the author of Genesis and other ancient texts is that the other texts claim the gods had needs and humans were created to meet their needs. Whereas the God of the Torah is understood to have made humans to be part of His Divine Council. To be his Image Barriers on earth and to synergies with God. Anyone appealing to the Epic of Gilgamesh as the superior retelling of the Flood; for instance, seemly hasn’t read why the gods sent the Flood in the first place. It was because humans were annoying them terribly and the gods decided squash humans out like bugs. They were dumb deities for doing so because without humans they would have no one to meet their needs and would end up dying out. Most pagan gods from antiquity were selfish, often going to war with another and creating stuff out of the dead bodies of dead deities. Back then the gods weren’t viewed through the lends of morality, they were seen as above it. The whole point of God testing Abraham to sacrifice Issac was to communicate that God didn’t need anything from us to help maintain His existence! Unlike other deities, the God of the Hebrew Texts was much more humane in His dealings with creatures. Yet because something came first therefore it’s the best retelling? Seriously?! What Genesis is doing is taking what was public domain material from antiquity and properly correct how to best understand it. It showed that God wasn’t at war within Himself in order to create stuff. It demonstrated that the earth wasn’t created form an act o violence where it was shaped form the corpse of a dead god. Seriously, when people reject the Jewish-Christian texts in favor other texts from antiquity, can they not see why those texts didn’t have staying power? (The gods recorded in those texts were dumb.) Gilgamesh got it wrong! What kind of god would be so stupid to kill off it’s only means of getting fed? Dumb. It‘a not about who came first - it’s about who got it right. Genesis got it right

Your points are valid and your arguments are correct, but I feel like your approach needs work. It reminds me a lot of when I was in my late teens and just wanted to win a debate by any means possible. I worry that this approach might ultimately keep people away from Orthodoxy rather than bring people to it, whereas they latter should really be the ultimate goal for a channel like yours.

We can use working knowledge and definitions and say things are probably true, but these dogmatic scientists don't do that, they absolutely speak with certitude when they should not, and people just put their faith in that like God and they deserve to be called out on it. If you have a hissy fit over justification you know your argument is trash everything else is just a dog and pony show to save face. And I don't understand your point, science should have some authority but how can it have authority when it has zero evidence to work with? I don't believe in faith based science my friend, just trust the scientists bro all their academic work isn't just a massive pay to play scheme and all those archeological digs are just grassroots movements to find the truth man, lol. The world is a lot darker than that my friend.
