I was a very precocious kid. Drove my teachers nuts. I always did my work. Never was a smart@$$ on paper. (I learned quick! NEVER leave evidence they can show parents!) Being a Gen Xr latchkey kid, and very independent didn't help. Nor did my twisted sense of humor. When called on in class, anything was possible! The Teachers learned quick to avoid this! One of the best happened my Freshman year of high school, in English class. The old _write a sentence on the board, and diagram it._ Being new to the school, they didn't know me yet. YET! I was the first one called for this exercise. This is what I wrote... _"If there is one thing I've learned in life, it's that learning stuff never taught me anything."_ My teacher was laughing so hard by the time I finished the sentence, she said I could sit down. Never had to diagram it. Got a 100% for the day. She was one of the rare ones that had a sense of humor. That lasted about three weeks. I never got called on again. Because I never stopped being a smart@$$. The year before, my history teacher, Mr Jones, stepped out for a phone call (when you had to use the phone in the principal's office!) When he returned, I was sitting on his desk, singing _"I'm in trouble, come and get me, Mr Jones"_ He was furious. Expected more from an 8th grader, etc. He asked if I ever got tired of being a smart@$$. (Yep, he lost his self control! Said the word! In the classroom!) I said... _"No sir! Because the alternative is to be a dumb@$$. And my Dad says there are too many of them in DC already."_ In an instant, he went from furious to laughing! Sent me to my seat. All was forgiven. He wasn't a fan of the DC CARTEL either! That was over forty years ago! I haven't changed at all!
