Forgive my ignorance, but how much gear is required to use this sort of software and plugins and get a sound you can respond to in a bedroom and carry out simple recordings? For instance, would I need an amplifier or monitor speakers? Obviously an electric guitar is required.... what about specialised sound card in PC/laptop? Would a generic sound card with generic inputs/outputs for microphone and so forth suffice? Because I'm a loser, cost is an issue and so I'm looking for the simplest setup imaginable whilst still getting sound.
Does the eq and compressor settings translate to any other daw for the sound? Or do you have to have that pedal and cab selector that lp provides?

Skip Mcgee the signal chain is compressor > envelope filter > amp > compressor > EQ > reverb. You can recreate that in pretty much any DAW.
