My family used to go on holidays to Italy back in the 90's. My Father, who passed away recently, had an Italian friend we used to meet there. His name was Luciano and he was a singer, married to his swedish wife, Gunilla. My father, being a serbian man originated from dalmatia, immigrated later to the US and later on to Germany, speaking several languages, brought our family to visit Italy. I remember those days very clearly - we used to have dinner in restaurants and Luciano would always play the guitar and sing. All the people were drawn to his art, playing the guitar and singing. It was magical. I used to be overwhelwed by the attention it got, being a shy kid. One of the songs he used to play was this one.. and it became my favourite song. He would ask me about a song I request and I always asked for this one 💜 Without even knowing what it was about 😂 Nowadays I always come back to listen to this song, replaying this beautiful memory in my mind. I also think about how many cultural influences came together that time and the beauty about that ❤

Strangely enough, German composer Richard Strauss used this song in a work of his, thinking it was a traditional Italian song and therefore public domain. Imagine his surprise when he got sued.
