Very sad. I'm in Australia and when my uncle passed away in his eighties, they still showed the same brotherhood. He spent his whole working career as a fireman and at the end of his funeral we walked outside and there were 3 fire engines who all had their lights on. They all played their sirens for about 30 seconds and then left. It was so moving as he hadn't worked for over 20 years but they still honoured him.

The rest of the ems and fire community mourns your loss. A loss of one is a loss to all of us especially in the line of duty. As a paramedic I remember all the fireman from ladder 3 after sept 11 so many funerals for months. I hope Nyc sent a delegation. This reminds me what I did not miss during my career.

The police. Notice the lights in the rear window and the enclosed backseat. That is more than likely a SGT., or Capt., but it is for sure a police of higher rank.

This sucks! What a tragedy. I'm retired from the U.S. Forest Service and noticed three Forest Service employees were pallbearers. Does anyone know, had Kelly worked for the USFS at one time? I experienced a LODD of a subordinate during my career and it is tough to get over, cause you never do.

Yes / Kelly worked in northern nevada on a hand crew as well as in the Santa Barbara area Witt the USFS . And with Cal Fire/ riverside unit , where I met him as he was my roommate at the academy . He was a stand up dude!! My brother

I don't want to be a ass but my dad did 38 yrs for the fire Department Paramedic the first Paramedic in Los Angeles in the 70ds what he they did everything's thay could to make him retire when thay did 2 yr later he past away not one person he work for didn't show up to his Funeral and did 38 yrs for the County of Los Angeles

I’m sorry to hear that your father was treated this way.

This was a stupid training exercise. You can see in the report that the ladder could have been positioned further from the building to make a less aggressive angle but the angle they chose was ridiculous, plus with all that gear, that was a suicide training. I don't trust fire administration or the NFPA. Admin chose to risk life and leave his child fatherless for a billy badass culture. I guess LAFD has the mentality risk alot to save nothing.

red and black are traditional at a funeral, depending on station

How many engines and ladders and bagpipes and ambulances are necessary in a FD funeral procession? While the sendoff was very respectful, the time and funds would be put to better use to investigate the cause of the fall, and train for a safety practice to prevent it. Citizens would like PD and FD to know your government jobs should not be conducted in a way rarely seen in a private citizen's life, it makes you all look bad. Brotherhood gone too far.

The city pays for services if die during time they work. There are companies that will cover his old house. You have chief or captain of house. The chief of entire city department and Commissioner of department. Those all the small truck, you had all those vans that had family members, those who were pallbearers, the priest.
