Fundamentals of Research or How I do it! - James Tanner (5 Jun 2022)

This class explains the basic research process from James Tanner's own perspective. This is a fast-paced summary of years of genealogical research experience. As the video explains, research methodology is a set of methods, rules and ideas that support a set of procedures for doing research. Each person will develop their own methodology, but we all learn from watching and listening to others.

Excellent training on the practical way to conduct research. This instruction is sorely needed but often obscured by other authors of genealogy books and manuals. Well done and very helpful. As a follow on- it may be helpful to have a course on the various records and which ones, if any, are more reliable to use.

THANK YOU! That was one of the MOST helpful programs I have watched! I wish I had watched it live because YES I do have a question! You mentioned not redoing other’s research, such as published books. But there was not an explanation of how to know what is valid info. Please help me understand that. I do know from this seminar I’m going to go back to the beginning and start over. I have been overwhelmed with which family line to work on. Do I concentrate on my direct line or do I do all counting on that line as I progress back each generation? Thank you!!!!!
