I kown the funcional gagings can be used only when the MMC symbol was applied after the tolerance just like the drawing you showed. My quesion is could we also add the MMC symbol to the tolerance for a pattern of cylindrical pins when the pins cut with notches around, the notches will be assembled with O-rings. I think from the point of the assembing of view, it's ok to add the MMC symbol, While our desinger think it's incorrect to add the MCC symbol because it will increase the risk of leaking since the the o-ring will be shifted more easily.

Thanks for the great question. We can utilize what is called the continuous feature symbol (www.gdandtbasics.com/continuous-feature) to control the diameters on either side of the o-ring groove as one single cylinder and if they are controlled with the MMC modifier we could easily use a functional gage as well. But as we know that means the smaller the pins are in size, the more position error is allowed. The design needs to be able to handle this extra position error. Additionally dont forget, that the smaller diameter that controls the location of the o-ring would actually be controlled with a completely different position feature control frame.
