@@spudproductions7606 If you know of any events in your neck of the woods let us know! We're also trying to make an off grid solar charging setup, the biggest cost to us is electric fees at events which that would help us avoid. The Scarabs great but the cab needs to sit a bit further back and higher for better ofroading like on a Stalwart .. also reduces the cab overhang for a better AOA going forward. The dash needs a arrangement to allow a better look down and forward view for driver. ..small tweaks but otherwise very cool. The Carver needs a one action break fold and slide forward seat ..a fixed buckets not good even on a two door car. It would also allow more space at the hips.🙄😉 Also prefer hammerhead or Tadpole trike layouts.. one at the back. Those motors look promising if the Torques high enough the boat and Sailing people may also be interested. 70kw from the small motor would definately interest a whole bunch of them given basic affordability... at the moment they are looking motors the size of the most powerful delivering 15-25kw.

That Thunderbirds truck was great. My one concern with it is the use of hub motors. The problem is that with hub motors they take all of the direct shock from the road, whereas in a typical layout the motor is connected to the road indirectly through the suspension system, which removes a *LOT* of the shock from the road. This is one thing that I worry about with the Aptera as well. It is more compact, but I hope the longevity is not compromised.

@@spudproductions7606 I'm sure they've done numerous durability tests and have decided that it is worth it, and I imagine that for most driving situations the shock is manageable. Crazy off-road driving over very rocky terrain might be more severe but that's not the function of that particular truck.

EV classic cars is such a great idea. I would really like to see some "drop in" kits that replace common ICE engine/transmission packages with an EV system. For example, in the US there have been hundreds of thousands if not millions of cars made by General Motors over the years that use a small block Chevy (or very similar Buick, Pontiac, Oldsmobile engine) mated to a TurboHydro TH350 or TH400 transmission. A drop in replacement that uses the same engine and transmission mounts and takes up the same space, etc would be so great. Extra space in the engine compartment could be used for batteries as well as the space used by the fuel tank, which is no longer needed. And of course the trunk could partly be used too. This would mean that the battery pack would be split up into more than one pack, but that shouldn't be a problem. Ford and Chrysler have used similar engine/tranny combinations over the decades, as well as other cars all over the world.

@@spudproductions7606 Ah, nice! I know there are many companies around the world that will do conversions for ICE cars, though several specialize in specific models. I also know that Ford has a crate motor kit available soon that will be a mostly complete set of everything you need but I don't think it's a direct drop in. I think this is a largely untapped market that could potentially be HUGE. Imagine a classic Mustang that is even more impressive from a performance point of view but also can behave like a super economy car when driven "normally". Or a Corvette, Camaro or any number of cars around the world. Would be awesome.

@@StreetMachine18 All the ex-Tesla mechanics? There is an abundance? Plus all the Leaf mechanics too? C'mon, less than 2% of the cars in the UK are electric and most of those are hybrids. Gives you an idea of how many mechanics there are able to fix them and with a bespoke conversion you can't take it to a dealer, whether Nissan or Tesla. This is based on the assumption too that a bespoke conversion will be as reliable as a manufacturer EV (not suggesting ECC are not competent, quite the opposite, their work looks top notch) . I suspect there are more EV technicians in a handful of major cities but you're gonna be stuck after that. Pretty sure there's at least one petrol engine mechanic in most UK towns and many villages.

@@BombSponge I would imagine that the equipment providers will have some way of running diagnostics - depends upon what sort of gear you are running. Worst case scenario, get your friendly recovery service to transport it back to your fitter. Car transport is not actually mega expensive, provided that you can book in advance. But, either way, these cars are way more simple than normal cars, so extremely unlikely to go wrong in the first place. Mostly solid state, factory sealed water proof casings.

"Can't believe I said Sensible." This alludes to a question that I get asked a lot of times from non-EV drivers. Why do EVs have to accelerate so fast, especially Teslas? Why can't they be sensible? Well, the truth is that if you want BEVs to remain a niche product, then make the BEV no better than the ICEV, arguably like the Renault Zoe or Nissan Leaf. BEVs have to be better. A lot better. Which they are - to kill off the ICEV. Which includes slightly ridiculous acceleration numbers. Or even stupidly quick acceleration numbers. Then you aren't just selling to busy environmentalists (cough), like me.

I agree. I would like a super-tortoise mode though, for when I want maximum mileage / cannot afford a new set of tyres this month. My father's old Merc had a limiter, you could set it to 30 and it would never exceed that, so you could drive it normally and know you are safe from the long arm of the law. It also had a button at the end of the accelerator pedal travel - give that a hard press and it would leap towards the horizon like a scolded cat. Great feature.

EVs will be sensible when you can charge one while living in a high rise apartment (most city dwellers). Until then they'll remain niche in the most densely populated areas which is where they're most suited. Environmentalist or not.

@@BombSponge That's another question entirely. It isn't the fault of the EV. That's the relatively easily solved issue of infrastructure. I live in a house with no driveway. I park in my residential car park. Much correspondence to my city council has resulted in zero action, with residential chargers linked to local electricity accounts. That's doable. Everywhere in my area, people have Hybrids of a type. I'm the only one with a BEV, because I asked my company if they would install chargers [EVSE], so I can charge at work for free. But the message is clear - get the residential chargers in and we'll change. You mentioned "apartment", so I'm going to guess inner city USA. The US is way behind Europe and China in EV market penetration. Our cities are solving the problem [except mine, it appears], so if You and I want an EV takeover sooner we have to solve that problem faster.

@@ramblerandy2397 Agreed, infrastructure is key. Wasn't referring to US inner cites only but most major cities around the world aren't able to accommodate charging EVs, certainly not for most people in apartments whether high rise or street parked. The irony is that at the moment most people that own EVs dont live in the areas they're most suited . i.e. high pollution, noisy, short journey areas - Inner cities. Hybrids sure, EVs no. Must be a good reason where there's so few EV Taxis too. Saw a lot of EV scooters in China - they whip out the battery pack under the seat and pop in a charged one. Seems to solve the charge time problem and you can carry the battery into your house to charge it. Crazy thing is though, they ride them around fast at night but dont turn the headlights on so they get more range. Add to that, very few if any wear helmets but they all wear face masks ...because of the pollution. You can neither hear nor see them coming, deadly! :D

Really for one we cannot go full electric vehicles our power grid cannot handle it for one. All counties need to restructure the power grid we have now and Solar and Wind are not going to do that job to make the power needed. Still need oil for these electric cars to make them to lube the gears just dont see it happening until we redo our existing power grid.
