Wondering about the answer to #4? Read this! (TOEFL tutor and native US English speaker here.) In question #4, the man is asked about Chuck, whom he has just visited in the hospital. "He's looked better," the man says. This is a tricky one. I've shared this video with some of my own students, and they had trouble with this question too. Still, the usage in #4 is important to understand. "*He's* looked better" means "he has looked better (in the past) than he did when I saw him just now." "*He* looked better" would mean "he looked better just now than he did before." The first sentence, the one in the video, means Chuck is _not doing so well_. The second sentence, which doesn't appear in the video, would mean Chuck _seems to be getting better_. This verb form ("he's looked," "he has looked") is called the _present perfect_, and we use it to imply that something was true _once_ but is not true anymore. In the late 1990s, there was a rock song whose chorus began "I've seen better days..." The person singing that song is saying that things used to be better than they are now. (I.e., things have gotten worse since then.) Likewise, imagine you are meeting a friend in a new coffee shop. Neither of you have been there before. You order tea, and your friend orders coffee. You wonder whether the coffee at this new place is any good. You ask her: "How's the coffee?" She replies: "I've had better." What she means is: "The coffee I've had in the past (at other places) is better than the coffee I am having now (at this place)." The same grammar, with the same underlying meaning, is used in #4. Chuck has looked better (sometime in the past) than he did just now, when the man visited him.

FYI: If anyone of you who wants to determine the correct answer of the options from the previous conversation, make sure that you choose the different option among others and the answer is actually not really the same that you heard from the conversation.

I think this is a good video to increase our listening ability. It provides another kind of exercises for us to learn listening. The native speakers aren't fast in speaking, so we can understand what they are talking about. However, i still find some difficulties when listening to this video. For the example in no 26, it's hard for me to understand about the response of the man. that's not clear enough. :)

38/50 I must say, I am quite satisfied with the first attempt result. Good enough to be inspired for further practicing..Thanks a lot for uploading of the great practicing material!

48/50 - The tricky part for me is concentrating on the best possible answer. Takes a lot of brainpower even for native speakers to do this without pausing and rewinding.

45/50..... BUT.... It wasnt THAT EASY... you really need to be FOCUSED ... I'm a language Professor and I can understand that one of the problems we ALL have... it's the lack of attention...

You are quite right. Many times,when I find that I really lack of info for answering, I go backwards to the chat and confirm that the specific data I´m requiring it´s there but my mind is engaged on something else, generally daily life´s small nothingness and useless worries. I´ve got 44/50 (within a somewaht noisy build-constructing receding environment) but I wish to better the mark

What?! I got 47/50! My test is literally in 3 and a half hours(last minute studying is the best) . You just have to pay really close attention, but otherwise it’s not really complicated, I’m a senior in high school rn so if I can do it anyone can.

I got 23/50 omg this is very useful but im so nervous!

42/50 . Really, it wasn't that difficult but some of the questions are pretty tricky... I didn't expect that, so I took the test very casually, without focusing that much. I should say that listening to podcasts and interviews can really help, in those cases because you get used to listening and understanding. Fortunately, those sentences are quite easy to grasp. What is really complicated is not being able to take notes xD Anyways, this was fun !

I had all of this simulation in my cd for toefl o:, thanks for upload it.

It's more than listening. It's your interpretation as well. Moreover, the multiple choices trick you in a limit of time. Even if you are an English Native Speaker!! It doesn't mean that you will get full score!

41 / 50 the last part was my weakness area probably is the vocabulary...

I got 31/50 and i don’t feel disappointed because this is first try. I think I did well but I have to say that in part B and C I was distracted and the part C I was lost. this is really interesting
