A live, semi-improvised track performed entirely on hardware.
It had been a while, and I just got a battery pack for USB gear, so I thought I'd take the Tracker for another spin. It turns out that the Tracker is one of those devices that I love more and more with every time I use it. Songwriting is getting faster on it, and its performance effects are my current favourite for getting wild with drum parts. Rearranging the sequence allows a level of complexity that you just can't get with a beat repeat! And the fact that you can then take those performance effects and apply them to other tracks instead makes the Tracker extremely flexible and fun for making jams.
I added the AFX Station at the last minute because I wanted something I could play notes on, and because I wanted something melodic to end the track. The AFX Station is just the right sound, size, and shape for a jam with the Tracker, and its filter and drive are (in my opinion) underrated. It may just be a Novation Bass Station II in disguise, but it's an awesome analog mono synth.
Polyend Tracker - Sequencing, sampling, sample player, effects
Novation AFX Station - Mono synth (running through the Tracker for reverb and delay)
Performed and recorded live to a stereo output, with EQ, compression, and limiting on the master.

I'm late to the party, but I made it at last. This is such wonderful music 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
As always well done, beautiful jam. BTW Bass Station 2 is one of the most underrated mono synths in the history.
Man, it's like your creating a soundtrack for my life growing up in a dreamy Simon Stålenhag version of the 80's. Love it, man. Thank you!
This was as healing as all your other tracks, but still unique, you've never gotten repetitive. It's a walk down a road that I think we both needed, purely about the journey as with music there is no destination. I've been here this whole time, just too tired to comment. You're doing something beautiful here Jay, keep doing it, and thank you 🤍.
I love the tracker I still need to learn about real time performance effects as I get confused but once I find time to sit down and watch the tutorial I think I’ll have the last piece of tracker figured out
Oooof - That ending riff: pure *chef's kiss*
This is so good really good. The melody and the drum pattern, great Aphex vibes ❤🔥❤🔥
Man youve opened me up to so many products i didnt know existed in the songwriting realm. Love what youre doing. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Beautiful!
Love this tune!!!
That was awesome 😳
Very nice!
Excellence in ecunomony - and again , it sounds like nobody else - the tonal imprint is superbly "Hoskingianna" 😘☝
This was a great ride
Perfect Jam!
Well, that was bloody lovely.
The groove is just perfect, i love that!
very nice
That was awesome! Well done man!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Brilliant.
gorgeous ❤
Wow that is one beast of a machine.
Great jam! Loved the simplicity of it.
Really nice track, sounds great ,cool jam.👌
impressive one ! 🥳👍
🤩just wow.
Sounds great.
Incredible work on this! 💙💙
What a great track and masterfully tweaked. ThankYOU for indulging me with this beautiful performance.
Great vibe as always! The nice sounding reverb stood out right from the start. My mind brings up images of fast paced 2d platform games to accompany the music - perfect fit!
lovely
A very, very nice piece of music sir.
Cracking tune! These two make a great duo also. Amazing what you can do with just a couple of devices.
Really nice vibe. As I learn how to do jams of my own, I turn to your videos to kind of get my head around making music.
Oh I just love all the tunes you produced, it's so ambient and trancy, flowing like a liquid. So good to see different gears appears in your videoes that shwocase their talents with you:)
So cool to hear! I love how organic the chance/performance effects make the drums. OPZ has a lot of performance tricks too, but this interface is very clean. Thanks so much!
Just great. Nothing more to add :) Have a great day everyone.
Love it :D
Very nice
AFX Station indeed. This is awesome :)
Great vibe and great track! Such a sexy setup combo, wait a minute thats my exact pairing of a setup too haha 🤘🤘 great to see others of similiar fine tastes out there 😂♥️
Cool track man. Those performance effects add some great life to it all. I'm just waiting for my Tracker to arrive and excited for the possibilities. Great pairing with the AFX station, I was considering using mine with Hydrasynth Explorer for a nice portable setup
Thank you bro! That little machine is something I want more than most other little bits! That would go so well with my Jomox with some soft synths like you have done, very very nice 👌🏻 Totally agree about drums, when using hardware it it so nice to find something that changes so much with so little manipulation ❤️
dang that reverb is nice
It amazes me on how your style shines through no matter the devices used. You probably could throw a few cans, some rubber bands and a Strymon reverb together and we would get another awesome Jay Hosking jam. Thanks for these.

Aphex Twin would be jealous. This was one of my favorites of yours so far.
You've got best live jams on yt! Love it! Wish novation did a keaboardless version of bass station...
There are a lot of devices that should take a lesson from the Tracker’s performance effects. They’re powerful and super fun. Great jam, as always!

Plus it should be worth mentioning that the Polyend Tracker’s midi sequencing abilities are good, Octatrack good to be precise (it can give the Elektron Octatrack a run for its money)
I really love the Polyend Tracker and use it as a backing track to my wind synth instrument. I pretty much cant play anything else as well as I play my saxophone, and this construct of song and performance mode allow some flexibility of performance of the backing track. I have not tried piping the sound into the tracker, but use midi out. I like to try that on the older Yamaha pss480 synth. I bet this method could bring new life to the older synth.
Awesome jam. Just got a tracker too. Hoping it will make drum editing more fun.
That things is a glitch and poly rhythm beast!!!
This is a timely video for me. Been going back and forth for a few months on a 'groove box' and I am leaning more towards this. Not going to lie, the tracker workflow seems intimidating but in terms of price, features and build quality (looking at you OP-Z), the Polyend Tracker seems like the sweetspot. ALSO... Kick ass and inspiring jam as per usual!
I'm getting BOC vibes with this.
Awesome jam! I ordered a used AFX station, it should arrive in a couple days. After that Im saving up for an SP404mk2 to pair it with. Im into hip hop so my plan is to make some beats and bounce it back and forth into my DJ software to add scratches and stuff, then maybe back into SP for effects!
Jay hosking is an aphex fan? Nice!

Hardwarrrrreeeee I’ve now been getting hardware synths and my bank account is weeping
Amazing performance. It is possible thst you've just sold me the Tracker :) Does it have the timestretch feature?
@JayHosking
2 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. You can timestretch it offline (in an editing menu), but it's fiddly and can't be done in the context of a song. It's not like the Octatrack, which can stretch in a song while changing pitch in real time.
Great jam. Have you tried using the Bass Station in AFX mode with the Tracker yet? Would love to see what kind of glitchy fun that might produce?

I've goofed around with it but never come up with a jam. Maybe I'll give it a spin!
nice simple setup! darn, how many sequencers do you have? have you kept them all (e.g. the NDLR too?). Only one I haven't seen on your channel yet is the oxi one sequencer. but I'm sure its coming ;) haha
@JayHosking

Dedicated sequencers, I've currently kept the NDLR, Hapax, and Squid. Not sure I'll try the Oxi One but maybe in the future!
