Idk why some comments are talking about the fl being promiscuous bc that make 0 sense! She is INDEPENDENT and although there are different men attracted to her bc of that, she makes it clear that she is NOT about that life. She wants to be free and does NOT need a man to be happy. On the other hand, the ml is incredibly possessive (the toxic, "i need a restraining order" kind) and insecure. Yes he cares for the fl, but he repeatedly threatens and confines her out of jealousy. The ml likes her bc she is spirited and doesn't clamor for his attention too so he's a hypocrite to boot. I didn't find their love story romantic in the least. The actor playing the ml never softened up his expressions and went from hot to cold in seconds. The actress playing the fl had a large range of emotions except for love. But I don't fault her or the writing, it makes sense that the fl wasn't crazy in love with a man who just treated her like an object..

I agree with you that the male lead has his issues (I kept overlooking that because he's from a different era) but that is based on our perspective from our time. For a monarch in his era he's very open minded towards her. The female lead, on the other hand, acts as if because she's from a modern world she doesn't understand the basic boundaries between men and women. It is clear that there are social norms in that era but she tends to pretend as if she doesn't know they exist (I'm not saying she had to agree with them, what's the fun in that). But I dislike it when they play dumb. It is obvious from the start that the other guy was interested in her but she kept pushing that it was just friendship. It's even more painfully obvious when you realise the boundaries between men and women in that era. Even placed in a modern era, it sounds like those persons that will keep hanging around a friend (guy or girl) that has feelings for them, but whenever their romantic partner points it out they will gaslight them that it's just friendship.

didn't feel the romance

The female lead (the character, not the actress please, the actress is wonderful) should drink more brain supplementing soup. The way the script writers wrote her towards the end killed all love I had for this drama.

I have seen better versions of this story. Casting for ML is good, he is handsome, fits the role and act well. The FL not as pretty and overacts. Everyone else is bad, music is bad as well. Only watched till the end as I like this story and want to see how different this version is from the others.
