Here I am watching this on the 25th May 2024, exactly 28 years after it was on the tv. I don’t even remember it from the time, probably because I was 22 then and I was out getting sloshed! I loved golf though so if I had known about it, I would have definitely watched it! The 80’s and 90’s were the best television!

I know it got a lot of flack, but I used to like it. I can't really see what was so bad about it. It's good fun.

The late 90s was an era when being different was something to sneer at. Cut the heads off the tall poppies; don't allow exceptions from the norm. Liking golf was a minority sport; it wasn't part of Cool Britannia so it had to go.

@@CA-ee1etI get your point but this was just before the whole ‘Cool Britannia’ stuff when Labour got in.

@@London_Native For me, the phrase 'Cool Britannia' was coined after the event. It was more 1995 / 96 where the whole Britpop and laddish type of culture which came to define Cool Britannia was at its height. It certainly carried into 1997 / 98, maybe a little into 99, but it had started on the downward curve by the time it got a name.

Sandro had earlier appeared on Family Fortunes in 1990; his family won the main game and he was their second player in the Big Money round, but they did not win the £3,000 jackpot.

Why did one team have two shots when the other teams only had one? Other than that it was a pretty good game show.

Oh, they absolutely would, except it would be fronted and guested by a range of ethnic minority left wing comedians and actresses, on the basis that golf is too white and it's their self-appointed duty to diversify the audience. Then nobody would watch the show, mostly because all the jokes would be accusing middle class white people (aka 98% of golfers and their potential audience) of being racist extremists. "Hahaha, they eat red meat and don't agree with Owen Jones, I bet they've only ever tried heterosexual relationships" Then they'd blame video games or Elon Musk for the fact that nobody was tuning in to watch their echo chamber.

@@CalvinsWorldNewsSadly, I think you are spot on! The BBC of the golden age of the 80’s and 90’s definitely ain’t the same BBC that is the total shambles we have now.
