Woah, this reminded me of a story I wrote a few months ago!! I never, ever, should’ve approached the lost woman in red. It was a cool evening, and I decided to take a walk around the neighborhood, as I did regularly. The moon was out, the sun was setting, creating an eyecatching spectacle on the horizon, and people were going about their everyday lives. That is, until a few minutes later, when something changed. Everyone fell silent as a young woman in a ragged red dress started approaching the townspeople around me. “Please, you have to help me. I don’t know where I am. I’m lost” She was barely able to explain her situation before everyone around started fleeing, and I was left alone with her, confused. People here have always been so friendly, willing to help anyone. Something wasn’t right. I walked up to her and asked how I could help, and if she wanted me to call anyone. Her demeanor immediately changed, from a lost and scared woman, to a menacing, cold witch. “Oh darling, I’m afraid you’re the one who’s lost.” “What?” I replied, confused out of my mind. She put a finger up to my lips. “Hush dear…nothing will make sense soon.” Everything went dark, and the next thing I knew, I awoke on the grass, somewhere, with the woman in red looming over me. I carefully got up, but immediately fell back down. My memories were fuzzy, my vision was blurry, and I felt an overwhelming dizziness. The woman in red chuckled deeply. I looked up at her with fury in my eyes. “What did you do to me? Where am I?” I managed to muster. She gave me a curious look. “What? Never heard of the legend?” I didn’t need to say anything. The confusion on my face was enough. “I’m the lost lady of Mulsberry. But I’m never the one who’s lost. Everyone else is.” “What?” “Exactly. Enjoy your long and agonizing death. There’s no way out of here…or is there?” In the blink of an eye, she suddenly disappeared. I got up again, now understanding why everyone was so quick to run away from her. I should’ve ran too. I wasn’t going to waste any time. I had to find a way out of here, or at least try. I took out my phone, checking to see if I had any call service, but of course, I didn’t. I still tried calling 911, but all I got in response was “We’re sorry, the number you are trying to reach is not available. Please try again later.” I quickly hung up, as the message was getting more distorted by the second. I felt frustrated. I felt distressed. I felt…lost. Man, if I make it out of here alive, I am going to have some major trust issues. I started walking, but I couldn’t tell you how long I did so. Time felt strange. I couldn’t tell if I had been walking for minutes or hours. But it didn’t matter. Trees were the only thing that surrounded me. They towered over me. I couldn’t tell which way was left or right anymore. I felt uncomfortable, almost to the point of throwing up, when I finally saw it. An old shack. I entered it. It seemed cozy. I didn’t feel as tense or stressed as I did just a few moments ago. There was a fireplace, a red couch, a bookshelf filled with classic tales, and a small kitchen with some food in the pantry. Not enough to survive forever, but enough to survive for now. Until I can find a way out. There was a pencil and paper on the table, almost as if it was waiting there for me. So…that’s where we are now. I want to share my experience with anyone and everyone who might be in the same situation as me. This feels like a nightmare. A never ending- I’m hearing knocks. They’re coming in twos, every few seconds. It’s been a minute now. Two minutes. They won’t stop. In fact, I’ve been listening to them long enough that they’ve started morphing into voices. “Base-ment. Base-ment. Base-ment. Base-ment.” Basement…
