I was so impressed with this review that I bought the P 5 model, I don't do a lot of cutting, more fine engraving so I opted for the 5 watt model. This is my second diode laser and the quality construction of this machine is far and above my current machine. It was very easy to put together with an excellent installation manual and all the hardware need to get up and running quickly. As soon as I powered it up, it went crashing into the back left position (I had the settings for front left). I then began to move the laser around the work area and discovered that while the X axis worked perfectly the Y axis ran in reverse. What followed was 3 days of watching videos and visiting several support groups trying to find a solution to the problem with no luck. I was getting desperate as I had several projects that I was already behind on and a new laser that I could not get to work. As a last resort I sent an IM to Rich and explained my problem and expressed my frustration. Last night at about 9:30 my phone rings and it's Rich. Long story short, he took the time to deal with my issue and got me up and running. It turned out to be a problem with two machine settings that were set incorrectly after a firmware update I had made in lightburn. Rich spent 2 hours with me to work thru this, i never would have found the problem on my own. I know now why he is considered by so many to be the Guru of the hobby laser world. I have learned so much from watching his videos. I also have discovered how much time and energy he puts into various charitable groups in the New Orleans area in addition to all of the other things he does. Thanks to him, my new Atezr is running like a Swiss watch, and I could not be happier. I made the right decision on this purchase.

Hello Sir, I wanted to thank you very much for this video and for the library settings file. I ordered the 24W Atezr back in early December when they had a special for $850.00 like $400 off. It got here a week ago and today I finally had the chance to assemble it. It was easy to assemble, and all the parts fit together nicely and got it squared up. I was up and running in about an hour. I then watched your video and followed along and set the speed from 6000 to 24000. I did have to add the laser config manually because LB did not detect it but not a problem. Then I was off and cutting and engraving a few tests using your library settings and I am very impressed with this laser especially the 430x430 work area. My one and only complaint is I wish the air assist could be controlled by LB instead of having to turn it on manually. I have nothing else but positive things to say about this machine. Anyway, thanks a ton for all you do for the laser community. It is much appreciated!

@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Awesome, I will grab it now. Thank you! I will say my only complaints with this machine so far have been that there isn't an easy way to lift the laser unless you cut blocks to put underneath it (legs come with the roller but unscrewing legs to put different ones on can be cumbersome). The focus arm is tough to pull down sometimes. I don't like that to remove the connector from the laser you have to tug on the wires. And a pretty well known issue so far has been the mirror piece which I also removed fairly quickly

I followed your suggested settings and poof, I am a very happy man. With the 3018, it took me about an hour to etch a coaster, now it takes me all of 7 minutes and it looks so much better. I have the D1 10-watt, 20 watt and the infrared with the double enclosure and the whole smear. I bought all this in anticipation to try and start making things to see for supplemental income and hopefully one day quitting my day job. I've done my due diligence with learning Lightburn. Thanks to you, Rich, and your awesome videos. However, I have had nothing but glitch after glitch with my Xtool machine. I would figure out and get around one glitch, and then another would pop up. (I am sure there is some user error here and there) I bit the bullet and bought the ATEZR P20 PLUS 20W LASER ENGRAVING MACHINE a few minutes ago. Hopefully, I will be able to utilize the RA2 roller and some of the other stuff I've already purchased. Maybe xtool will get it together, and I can use it again in the future. I made the final decision after watching this review and hearing you say you recommend this unit. I know you know your stuff, and I trust you. Thank you Rich, for all you do and all you offer us out of the kindness of your heart.

Thanks Teresa. Yes, xTool has many problems they've created themselves. Two geeks, Jasen & Mia, decided to create something new, knowing nothing about lasers last year and tried to copy the Glowforge plan. When that flopped, They moved into diode lasers seeing $$$. But using the proprietary control software with limited Gcode experience was a big mistake. Not to mention how they teach how to use the machines wrong in all their videos which compounds the problems. Perhaps one day they'll have an epiphany and realize open source code invites in the users who actually know to program the laser control boards! Good luck with your new machine!

Nice review there. Been wondering when we would see more robustly built laser diodes; the competition in this market is definitely heating up. My only question on this particular laser is what is the USB standard on the control module 2 or 3? I have to agree that having the power/interface connections being on top apart from the TF/SD card interface should be on side (left side being the best); it doesn't give a nice tidy look.

I’m looking to get my first hobby laser. Of course I’ve had to look at soooo many machines (videos) and it’s now getting harder, instead of easier, to make a decision. One of the issues that is beginning to stand out is the absence of an enclosure for these diode units. They are now powerful enough to fill a small room full of smoke I’d think. For the money they are asking, you can get an economy CO2 fully enclosed, and with a bed. Maybe I should have bought one last year when I thought the pricing was good. Oh, and thanks for the great review.

  • @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy

    @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy

Maybe a K40 Co2, but that's about it. Yes Lynn, prices have skyrocketed, but so has the technology & ability. You can still get an economy diode laser for $200-300.

I bought 7-years ago 60x40 co2 from China because none was available in the US then. The metal box is around 95kg / 200 pounds. With the stand, it takes up so much space, like an old piano. When the tube dies, I am going to buy a diode laser. The new Co2-s in metal boxes weigh about the same, and I never use the lift table. I am looking forward to 30W + diode lasers because they are much smaller and easier to move around. The enclosure I can build in no time. And cutting mostly laminated heavy paper, I only need a little power. I'm not too fond of the heavy behemoth CO2 just keeping it for now because of the cutting speed with 80W power

I've been thinking about getting a machine like this now that they have more powerful lasers. The Xtool D1 was my top pick until I watched this video and read the comments and found out about the issues - so now this one would be my choice. My uses would involve some wood cutting. So my question is are there lenses available with a longer focal length? It seems that it would be better suited for cutting with a beam that stays thin longer. I've also looked at CO2 machines and would rather have something that took less space and requires less maintenance as long as it was able to do what I need. Another question: Would it help to use CO2 instead of air for the air assist when cutting thicker wood? Seems like it would prevent fires and possibly improve quality of the cut by cutting off the oxygen. Great to watch a review video made someone very knowledgeable about what they are dealing with. Subscribed.

In assembly I fond that both Y sliders had an eccentric nut which makes 3 overall in the machine. Atezr has a KZread video that shows how to adjust all 3! which I had to do. Just thought I’d mention it, keep up the good work.

Hey Rich. Thanks so much for your valuable videos. I enjoyed watching this review and decided to purchase the Atezr V35 as my next laser. I don't have much experience with other machines. My only other being an XTool M1 10w so I maybe had some expectations regarding the V35 that may not be accurate. When engraving an image on the V35, I set my parameters to 18,000 mm/min, 80% power using Jarvis. What I notice is that the laser head does not move smoothly across the X-axis but seems to speed up and slow down depending on what part of the image it is engraving. If I compare that to engraving a normal rectangle with the same power and speed settings, the laser head moves across the X-axis smoothly and rapidly. Is this behavior when engraving an image to be expected? Will this harm the motors/belts/etc in any fashion? Thanks for everything, Jeff

I do have a question for you about this laser… I watched another review on the Atezr p20 by Steve makes everything and one of his cons was there is no framing spot to pin point the beam to line up say a batch of coasters. How did you get around this issue or is it even an issue to worry about?

Like your review and I am strongly considering this laser, but I want a laser to do tumblers, mugs and stuff. My concern is that with the rotary attachment you need to bolt on the extended legs and are a lot more complex to remove if swapping back and forth from rotary to boards. The xtool seems to have a "better" design to go back and forth, but curious do the extensions have to be removed if you aren't using the rotary or does the head have enough movement to work with the extensions?

As it turns out, the Y does have one on each side, but they were perfect. The X is very simple. There's a slot in the top of the gantry where the wrench fits into. Slide the module to the middle, under the slot and it's right there. Really simple adjustments. My X took about a 3mm turn to tighten. It was close.

I don't believe a 36W diode can be .08 with 6 columnated diodes, but .08 = 317.5 lines per inch. And 0.1 = 254 LPI. I would have to see that under a microscope with a crack ruler to believe it. I'll do that on the Atzer as soon as I can get to it. If you set a layer to fill in Lightburn and then double click it, in the Cut Settings editor, enter .08 in the Line Interval and it will tell you the LPI right under that. *IF* those numbers are accurate *AND* you have the perfect focus, it would do just fine on 99.9% of all engravings Patrik.

Hi. I have 100w Chinese CO2 laser. It seems to me CO2 laser is more complicated maintenance wise - you need to oil it, align mirrors from time to time (e.g. at the moment I cannot get clear vertical cuts), laser tube needs to be replaced after a while etc. This diode laser looks like a better, simpler solution for people who do not need a huge bed and cut wood thicker than 10mm often. As far as engraving speed goes, speed of Atezr p20 is acceptable. Also, this one has a small dot size, in CO2 laser one needs to change lens to achieve detailed engraving. Perhaps only drawback would be inability to work with clear acrylic? What do you think? Tnx for such a great intro.

I totally agree Ivan! Both have their pros & cons, and I love all of my lasers, Co2 & Diode. I have done many jobs employing both machines, the Co2 for cutting the project and the diode for the engraving. The diodes produce a much better engraving because of the dot size, and the fact that they burn the material, instead of vaporize it.

One thing though, the life expectancy of a diode laser compared to a CO2 laser, I suspect the diode laser life is considerably shorter even when run at moderate power levels. Is this true in your experience?

This may sound like a stupid question, but why not just stain the wood a different color instead of using the laser? You have to factor in that laser diodes burn out just like light bulbs and anything other than actual cutting and engraving shouldn't be used by the laser to extend the working life of the diode. I've used stains to turn regular pine boards into what looks like more exotics. Anyway, I'm thinking of getting a Thunder Laser Nova 51 130w Co2. The question is, how the heck do you make money with it? I know you can makes signs but there's already a sign shop that's been in business for years where I live, which is a small town. And Etsy is just overloaded with anything and everything craft wise. I thought about getting a FaceBook account, but when I signed up, I was immediately banned during the signup and I didn't even get to upload even a profile pic, much less post anything. I appealed it and the ban was upheld even though I never posted a single sentence and wasn't given a reason why I was banned. So fuck FaceBook and Mark SuckaTurd. I hope that cocksucker drowns in a septic tank.

I usually just stain the wood, but this method has a different, more consistent look. Not to say that I'll use it, but it was something I discovered by mistake. As far as making money? There are plenty of ways to do that. Start by making things and giving them away! You'll be surprised at how many orders you'll get!
