You can tell the guy is an aviation buff. He has probably always liked flight sims, and now with Oculus Rift, he can take his hobby and passion to the next level. Flight sim players are truly a breed apart. Google flight sim rigs. Standard enthusiast PC gaming hardware, and trips to the hobbyist hardware store constructing resources an contraptions to enhance their flight experience are commonplace. This dude is just a guy trying to live out his dreams of being a fighter pilot. Racers, shooters, and roleplayers can probably all understand this singular truth. Let the haters hate. More power to him.

CAVKING19DELTA TEXAS yeah but does he get to actually dog fight at work? (Live ammo) Same with car enthusiasts. A guy with a Lamborghini on a sim at home gets to drive their (much cheaper) super car faster than the guy with a real one more often and with less maintenance, tickets, health dangers etc.

This is without a doubt the pinnacle of entertainment. This is better than an IMAX and the average consumer can own one in their living room. It’s absolutely incredible. The PC, flight rig, VR and house costs exponentially less than a hangar full of every plane imaginable or a garage with every car. For 6-7 to even 10 thousand dollars in total, it’s worth it to live out your dream in the comfort and safety of your own home, as often as you wish.

Hahaha...I loved that game...planning bombing attacks on britain or air defense over Britain, then go to flight. Something that IL-2 doesn't have. BoB makes us feel like we are part of an air campaign with clear progress, not just a random air skirmish.

Man, This came out a month before I first started WT. I remember watching it back then. Don't know why it was in my recommended all these years later. but, I'm glad it was!

I love how far flight simulators have come . I remember playing red barron 3D as a kid on pc . All we had was a joystick and a year or so later the foot pedals came out

His reaction at 5:20. Priceless.

Unbelievable. Imagine what a full-motion sim would be like! Buying the Rift dev kit next month for sure!!

That's a sick setup man even just playing with a VR headset and a mouse and keyboard like I have it still so much better than the regular non VR experience

Honestly this is making me emotional because of how amazing this looks!

Have flown flight sims for years moved to VR a month ago and will never fly any other way again. You get a true sense of speed and altitude and the motion of flight. Couple this with a cockpit and a sim with a real flight model, (DCS), and it is a real game changer.

Yeah, my dream setup would be something that could roll and loop 360 degrees.

I got myself a triple monitor for my PC and I remember the feeling of flying a spaceship with it for the first time. One time I got disoriented when I was doing a barrel roll. I can't wait for final version of oculus rift.

I would never leave that chair. VR is going to be really bad for me. I'm a flight enthusiast. I fly RC stationary as well as Fpv. Can't wait to have full head movement in my flight games. War Thunder would be amazing. Looking forward to Elite Dangerous and Eve Valkyrie as well.

Ultimo D all I'd do differently is mount the chair on a two axis gimbal structure, so you could get pitch and roll movement with your VR. Better yet put it in a "ball" cage for loops as well. Now THAT could make a guy sweat!

This is pretty sweet. I remember when I played WW2 Online in the early and mid 2000's all I had was a Joystick Microsoft sidewinder 2 Pro and a keyboard. I loved that thing, lol. But back than the best set up was pedals and a joystick with throttle. We've come a long way in a short amount of time.

Well, debatable, but honestly most of the game could use a sound effect revamp imo (engine sounds in particular). Compared to a couple years ago the current gun SFX are much better, but they are becoming either boring or obsolete, can't decide myself.

+SLICE HEARTSHOT With this setup, no since it had positional tracking with that controller mounted on my head (lean in, lean to side, etc). Without it (the Hydra) I would get a bit nauseous if I moved my head around too much. With the DK2 (newer version of the Rift than shown here) no nausea at all since positional is built in and works very well.

+itsToon Headphones are a definite yes to have. For this video I didn't use them (surround sound in the room anyway) mainly because the number of cables running off my head was driving me crazy :) With the DK2, only a single cable, and with wireless surround sound headphones the experience is great!

+PinkNinja Gaming Mainly pre-made from MaxFlight. I added some PVC (now copper tubing) to the side to mount the Saitek Throttle on it, and that little stand on the front for the gauges (which you really don't need in the Rift anyway). All of it works great in FSX - Prepar3d (or without the Rift Xplane 10).

+EinWindir86 With this setup positional tracking had a tenth or two of delay. The DK2 doesn't have that problem, it feels instant (also doesn't require a Hydra on your head :) ).

+EinWindir86 That old dev kit had some slight input latency, but the newer dev kit doesn't have any noticeable lag, and the consumer version releasing next month is even lesser.

That is cool.The only upgrade I could find would be some motors on the chair that's tilts with the in game aircraft.Still that is so cool.

From a real pilot perspective this thing is way to laggy...compared with flight sim i get certifications on...but for gaming i guess is okey?

Not sure what you mean by laggy? As long as the sim/game is running at a reasonable framerate, inputs are instantaneous. Same with the head tracking or what not.

I think he means the lag between moving the stick IRL and seeing it move ingame. I actually think the video is just not synced up properly between the external camera and the VR feed.

I feel like this would be awesome when you are winning and not dieing but imagine the feeling of your wings being shredded by a hail of bullets, your fuselage being torn open by shrapnel and not to mention bullets shattering your canopy windows and destroying your instruments all that from a cockpit view would be terrifying
