Tap water is drinkable everywhere in Germany and without hesitation. the cities are required by law to do so. only if the water stands in the pipes for a long time can it discolour, especially if the pipes in the house are very old. just let it run until it's clear again

OMGoodness!! I remember some of this stuff when we arrived in Frankfort from JFK airport on Pam Am!! Dad was stationed in Nelligen, Germany first. They had a sponsor family with kids-my parents-remember playing with their kids in the Military 3 staircase family housing!! I was born in 1964. Went their when I was in 1st grade-left in 3rd grade ( for parents divorce for 6 weeks) then back. 1973. Went back stateside for a year in Baltimore MD then back to Germany to Vilseck!!

I took many solo trips with these guys because they were cheap, I thought I had a limited time in Germany and I was country counting. However, if you want to spend a lil more money, you could have US FLIGHTS24 hook you up with military discounted vacation packages, cruises, and more. But yes, it’s definitely time for a video for my single folks 😊 US Flights24: What to expect? Cheap Military Flights - OCONUS PCS to Germany! kzread.infowzF5UVzcaLY?feature=share

wow, OMG. So, I used to live in Baumholder, Wetzel on the lower side back in 1986-1992. I lived in building 8829 apartment 1-C. This looks completely different from when I was there. The laundry was in the basement, not in any of the apartments. We have a 4 bd room apartment too. Hoping to go there next year, not sure they will let me go into the actual housing area. Is Wetzel elementary still open? I heard it wasnt.

Unfortunately, the water situation is real. My best friend and her family are in Smith and experienced it. They get water delivered and have filters on everything now. They only use the dishwasher for drying. Her son’s doctor gave them a warning when they all kept getting sick before installing the filters.

Baumholder was the worst place I lived from 1978-1983; that place should be considered a hazard and remote pay assignment. Baumholder is a german Town, not a city, and is 100% dependent on the Garrison. The winters are brutal due to the mountainous elevation I lived in Wetzel Housing; good was that I could walk to school even though that little commute was hazardous at times. Also, living in Wetzel forced you to walk everywhere else just to get basic things done. Smith Housing was the most convenient, but didn't look appealing (barracks appearance). The exchange and Commissary haven't changed since I departed in 1983; I visited Baumholder in 2023 as two school friends of mine are buried there. Children aged 13-18 had nothing to do there except stay in trouble, although I'm certain that this has changed with the imrpovements of AYA activities and other family sponsored events. It was and still is called the "Rock" - even the German Wehrmacht called it the "Rock" and didn't want to be stationed here unless they were from the region. Previously, Baumholder didn't belong to the Kaiserslautern Military Community - it was on it's own with sub installations of Neubreucke (Air Force/Army medical personnel mostly and located 20 kilometers west of Baumholder in the county town of Birkenfeld) and Strassburg Kaserne ( Army logistic personnel, located in the city of Idar-Oberstein 15 kilometers north of Baumholder). The nearest city was Idar-Oberstein which is beautiful. It is the Gemstone center for Germany and used to have approximately 40,000 inhabitants; due to the base drawdown and lack of large employment opportunities, the city's population stands at 30,000 today and has many closed shops - it still remains beautiful. The largest city in the area is Kaiserslautern (K-Town). Ramstein Air Base is the Gem for shopping (huge Base Exchange/Mall) and was also the magnet back in 1978 for a base with all the amenities. Once you shopped or spent time at Ramstein, you were sad to return to Baumholder or at least my friends and I were. The good part of Baumholder was it's proximity to France, Luxemburg, Belgium, and the Mosel Valley. I was glad to see all the new improvements and changes in the Baumholder Community of this video. As Baumholder is now part of the Kaiserslautern Army Garrison, I hope the base continues to get the approrpriate funds to ensure personnel stationed there are not made to feel "on their own" as it was during my time. There are many other places that can be considered "hard assignments," but as far as Germany is concerned, my opinion is that Baumholder ranks number one on "hard" assignments for Americans stationed in Germany. An excellent video; great content, good optomistic outlook, and a beautiful family you have Daniel.
