This tournament is the proof you can't compare players or decide who's better than whom just by their 1v1 match. Fan defeated WCQ in previous tournament, Alexis defeated Fan and Ma defeated Alexis, but then again WCQ defeated Ma. So you gotta look at their overall career and consistency, and when it comes to that, NO ONE comes remotely close to Ma Long.

Well ma long is very unlikely to lose to someone out of CNT not like FZD and WCQ and other Chinese player but ma long started to lose to his teammates because of his age but he still reach the final.

Respect to Ma Long but WCQ is younger and faster. Recovers faster than Ma long. This is a very convincing dominance and win. Experience may continue to count for Ma long, but not for consistent, faster and younger player like WCQ.

I think he is simply nervous or unprepared for Wang Chuqins lefthanded aggresive playstyle as well. There were many opportunities, like those strawberries he played, where I feel he would usually hit a big forehand shot to take control of the ralley, but he instead gives a passive return.

Great match, congratulation for both players. Table tennis is so beautiful and wonderful to play.

At 10.30-10.38, it looks like WCQ service has contact point clearly over the table . There are other examples. Maybe 20% of WCQ pendulum serve are over Table looking at the video. It maybe the video angle, but I don’t see this in Ma Long serve.

Really odd to watch Ma play so ..weak. Wonder if he was tired after the previous matches and/or ill or something. Seemed he had not enough power to move and reach for the balls. And indeed strange him trying those backhand chops repeatedly even when it was clear those did not work against Wang - who, must be admitted, played superb. Won most of the long rallies and all the other things. Still, 4-0, huh.

It seems almost like he wasnt even trying. He just gave the game away to wang chuqin. Weak backhands when he would usally stya close and counter with it, and those backhand chops when he would usually hit a forehand loop kill! Such a strange game, I believe it would have been a 3-4 victory for Wang if Ma Long was really trying, but I still dont see him beating Wang when he is in such incredible form.

I said it before but I will say it again; if you present yourself in high level tournaments with a sub-optimal backhand, you will be crushed because the days of pivoting to the left to allow one to play the forehand from the backhand side is over. Ma Long's backhand leaves a lot to be desired. He has had a lot of time to improve on it and yes, he has made an attempt at it but said attempt has been below par. He will never be number 1 again because there are just too many awesome players with thunderous backhands who are prepared to do anything to improve..Ma Long may win a tournament here and there but to all intents and purpose, HE IS A DINOSAUR IN THE NEW AGE. HE IS DONE. HE IS FINISHED.

Well he's had an unbelievable run, and now time's catching up to him...Wang Chuqin seems to have Ma totally figured out.

Wang Chuqin apparently has Ma Long totally figured out, so it's not looking good for Ma's bid to represent China at the 2024 Paris Olympics...it's a shame but that's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes.

I disagree. Ma Long is still a problem for the Europeans which I believe i very important for the chinese national team. Even if ML can't win, as long as he gets to the final it should be fine.

The most boring final ever. Even Wang Chuqin was disappointed after winning. Wang Chuqin did not celebrate nor gave the slightest smile after winning. I wish it was Fan Zhendong vs. Wang Chuqin. That would have been 10× more entertaining to watch.
