Ovtcharov became No. 1 only because the top Chinese players were pulled off from international competitions by the Chinese TT management around that time for some fiasco

Vlad got his first wr.no1 on Nov 1997 and kept it for a whole year. Then got several times between 1998-2000. Ovtcharov only got it for 3 months and was because of ranking system changing. Not even comparable.
