@@jamescarpenter1842 Marvellous to watch a good modern craftsman at work. If you are one of those who say "you cannot get the craftsmanship these days", you are simply going to the wrong places.
I had no idea that non-factory cobblers could carry out work of such high quality. I'm going to contact you re my Church shoes Dan.
Brings back memories of childhood in the south Bronx in the 60s and 70s .There was a one and only cobbler in my building love watching him repair shoes. He would ride his bike 2 work Didn’t have a car he was British. Loveving person to be with .miss him dearly.
This video was flagged up to me and I must say it was fascinating to watch a craftsman do a top notch job. Most enjoyable thank you.

You can't wear investment banking, you can't eat investment banking. But you can wear nicely repaired shoes and you can enjoy good food. Your video celebrates the value of well executed manual work and its results.

I went out in the rain last night and I wore investment banking. It was pretty heavy but it kept me dry as a bone. When I got home I was quite peckish, so I threw investment banking in the microwave, it was delicious.

Really good job. I‘m impressed, as a child I saw it so many times in my small German village. But it needs til now to understand this great work a little bit.
Really great video. No super complicated way of doing things. Fast and thorough and professional done from start to finish in 45 min to 1hr. One of the least complicated redrafting methods. Seems to be a new shop space and quite new machinery in comparison with many I have seen so far.. The machinery the cobbler in my town uses is quite antiquated but then the bag pipe chanter red make has machinery that looks as if it came FM the beginning of the Industrial revolution...which it probably did. Whatever it takes to get the job done and without discarding functional items without my need has been my way to go. I also marvel at what trades people and craftspeople can do. You are a fine example of your craft.
So crafty and skilled. Beautifully done!
Thanks bud, you're doing an awesome job. You're doing a great job/deed spreading knowledge of repairing an outsole. I am now encouraged to repair my own outsole for my J&M derby dress shoes. You are such an awesome dude, words can't explain how happy I am to learn from you man. God Bless. I also have been making leather goods for about 3 years like wallets, knife sheaths, gun holsters and miscellaneous items. becoming a shoe cobbler is its own realm of leather crafting.
I love this video !!!! Beautifully done! I always wanted to know how the magic of reviving our most loved shoes was done . Fantastic work ! Thank you. I also made me apply even more the great work of a good cobbler!
Very good explanation of each procedure in the construction process. Each step defined is a good teaching tool for those not familiar with each request. Good training vid!!!
I really enjoyed this video Dan. I love to see all the work you put into these shoe jobs. As always, well done mate. You’re a very skilled cobbler indeed. Thanks

Many years ago I trained as a surgical shoe maker... we did the welts by hand. It was hard work, but was my favourite part of the job.
You are an artist and your work is perfect
Mr. Tring, my Dad had a shop in the Mid Hudson River Valley of New York for 55 yrs. I helped him from the age of about 8 until I was out of high school in 1964 (yeah, I am 3 days older than dirt)...I watched you go through a very familiar routine...It was so much the same. The big stitcher he used was called a McKay stitcher. The flax thread was pulled through a hot bees wax bath just before being used to sew on the soles...the welting was done by hand. You do nice work...I swear I could smell the contact cement from here just south of Chicago...

Lots of fun to watch a great trades person who is able to craft old footwear into impeccable delights. The videos are not only informative but well done. The voice is direct and the enunciation superb. One of the best productions on shoe refurbishing on U tube. The only issue is my wife thinks you a real hunky and she is left with my 78 yr old beer soaked body. I tell her she cannot have it all but she can dream about you. Cheers and thank you!
Always fun to see a craftsman at work. I just wish I knew about you last time I was in your area...... and perhaps I just have to bring my boots over when they need some work done to them......

Nice work! From D. R., Thanks for sharing your amazing skills. Bless you, young man.
Judging by the cracks at the forefoot of those shoes, the uppers will split long before those JR's wear out :D
It is interesting to watch Bedo's, Brian the Bootmaker and now Tring to see the different techniques used. Very nice restoration.

Great video and a wonderful job. The thing about good shoes is that you can have them repaired and enjoy them for many more years. And having the repairs done is still less money then buying new shoes. Jeff

Those Churches shoes if you wanted to Purchase them new today would set you back £530.00 they are Chetwynd Brogues. So a good repair is well worth the money spent, I have just 2 pairs of Churches currently, my first pair were some Diplomat semi-brogues i bought back in 1983, i had them for about 20 years and had them properly repaired 3 times. I liked them so much I bought another pair, but such a difference in price over those 20 years £85.00 in 83, and £310.00 in 2010, now they are around £530.00 if i were to buy another pair. My other pair are Loafers and are super comfy!
love watching a craftsman work!

Awesome craftsmanship! Back in the day, I could never get a decent repair on leather soled shoes (Loakes, Grensons or Churches), you knew that the customer had worn in the uppers and you worked with that (the whole point of buying decent, UK made shoes, that are intially an investment). Truly skilled, sympathetic work, it must be very rewarding, lots of happy customers.
