For some reason i've always thought that the Northern line was entirely underground except for Morden , High Barnet, Edgware, and Mill Hill east.

Used to be a train guard based at Morden, then High Barnet, then last at East Finchley.

The system is bad because it only knows selected power percents or? You can hear it when it tries to hold the speed. It always goes on and off on and off on and off. The IGBT-Technique should be able to do it smooth.

I often put this video on to listen while doing something else for the pure nostalgia of the good times I've lived in London, I know what I'm about to say is weird, but listening to this video I can almost "smell" the carachterist funny smell of the London tube lol

Bond Street Central line station is also closed due to station upgrade until Mid-June 2014. You can use Jubilee line or Marble Arch and Oxford Circus stations.

I lived in Morden for 26 years until 1973. I hated the tube back then. As soon as you leave Morden you plunge into the tunnel. I travelled on 1935 stock. These new trains seem to be faster but still as noisy. Not a nice journey in the rush hour and back in the day half the carriages allowed smoking. No intercom. If you got stuck in the tunnel you never knew how long you would be there. There was little at Morden until about 1935 when extensive house building took place. South Wimbledon is just Old Victorian terraces and Colliers Wood is just as dismal, certainly no wood!

They where designed by a French company called Altsom but built in Washwood Heath in Birmingham in the midlands so they are not technically British trains the were built in 1995 and it means by the time the video was recorded (April 2014, when I was 8 I am 17 now) these trains are almost 20 years old

they used to be door buttons that weren't needed (there was a mode that allowed the operator to activate them, not used at all) but obviously they had the sounds before the remodeling

so basically the only difference between the 1995 and 1996 stocks (apart from the fact they are used on different lines) is the traction motors

the refurnished Northern line 1995 stock looks more like the Victoria line 2009 stock with the blue seats and the blue hand poles:) but I prefer the refurbished ones not the old ones:)

Angel and Euston were once island platforms before being reconfigured to single platforms. It is too expensive to rebuild Clapham Common and North to single platforms and it is not on TfL important things to do list at the moment. It was cheaper to build Clapham Common and North as island platforms back then and the Northen line inherited it.

Quite rare to get an empty carriage out of Morden, even on a Sunday afternoon.

Why did you put ato on the video title

ATO always seems to be going on and off the power, I suppose to keep to the target speed, I'm sure it must use more power and be a lot less smooth than a skilled driver could do it. Braking can be rather erratic too.

+AndreiTupolev The Jubilee Line used to do it a lot as well but thankfully it's more smoother and faster along most of the line. Still does it a bit in the old tunnels between Baker Street and Finchley Road.

From getting slagged off for poor services back in the 80s and 90s and nicknamed the Misery line, the Northern line has evolved so significantly for the better.
