The ICE 587 is one of the ICEs, which operated with ICE 1 trains until February in 2024. Because it is barely possible otherwise to catch an ICE 1 on the direct connection Hamburg - Munich, I decided to fully record the limited classic ICE experience. Now the ICE 587 is operating with a double unit of ICE 2 again.
This train takes the direct route between Hamburg and Munich via Hannover, Kassel and Würzburg. Due to construction works in Hamburg the train startet from the main station instead of Altona and also just passed through Hamburg-Harburg. On the high speed railway between Göttingen and Kassel there were construction works, too. Therefore the train had to be rerouted via the regional railway. This railway goes via Eichenberg through the Werra-valley and then via Hannoversch Münden through the Fulda-valley. The stop in Göttingen was cancelled in the alternative schedule. Misleadingly the conductor even got the information that the ICE gets rerouted via Altenbeken and forecasted a delay of more than 70 minutes for Kassel. In the end this was not the case and Kassel was reached with 13 minutes behind schedule, due to smaller delays.
Between Hannover and Göttingen this ICE reached it´s maximum speed of 280 km/h for a short period of time. Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe marks the end of Part 1. You can continue by watching Part 2: • Komplette Fahrt ICE 1 ...
