Just got the news that Don got fired. As a citizen of the USA, I loved Hockey Night in Canada and Coaches Corner! I watched my first Stanley Cup Final in '93 and was hooked immediately on the greatest game on earth. In Detroit I watched Don and Ron on channel 9 on Saturday Nights with a couple of friends who could not believe Cherry's suits but got hooked on "Canadian" hockey like me. Thanks Canada for Hockey and Don Cherry! Thanks Mr. Cherry for years of Coaches Corner!

Tough exterior, but Don Cherry has a heart of gold. Much respect to the man.

There is nothing wrong with what Don Cherry said. I'm the son of immigrant parents and I grew up in Toronto. Love this country, love my city. Don Cherry just wants everyone to support our veterans and why is that wrong? We should wholeheartedly support the people who gave their lives for our country. Noone I know - not my family or friends (a lot of whom are immigrants or children of immigrants) disagree with Don Cherry. This is all just fake social media nonsense - social media has turned this into a racial thing when it isn't. Don Cherry is a good guy and a true Canadian. I hate that a person can't say a damn thing anymore without their life being destroyed by social media.

Agreed. EVERYONE should wear poppies. Not just YOU PEOPLE. He chose his words, go to 10:30. If he gets in trouble stop whining about it. He misspoke and refused to take the opportunity to correct himself, and he didn't. He dug his own grave, and when he was given a ladder to jump out he refused it.

Aw man, I love this guy. I've been watching, playing and otherwise following hockey for 24 of my 27 years, and Grapes has been there the whole time. I can't imagine hockey without him - he brings character to an otherwise boring-as-fuck analytical world. I've often argued that people who say they "hate" Cherry only say so because of the way he delivers his opinions. I agree, he's terrible at communication, but when you look at the stats, his understanding of the game proves 2nd to none.

I don't know about that, I think he's a pretty good communicator. Bad with words, but still a good communicator. Anyways, gonna miss him. Hope some justice comes and we get to see him again in some form. Sportsnet sucks for what they did.

Don Cherry is an embodiment of Canada which I enter 38 years ago as a refugee from the one of many communist hellholes. And I love him and I love Canada those days; straight forward, honest, when you need a help he/she would help you, otherwise didn’t meddle in your business. I am a 6th generation Canadian, my 5th Great grandfather came to Canada in 1798 and as a 6th generation Canadian, I know that this statement is nothing but a bunch of horse shit, Don Cherry is an ignorant, bigoted, and outdated loud-mouth!

Sadly Don was wrong about Québec getting an NHL team. Bettman and the powers that be don't want a team in Quebec. It's quite sad

Refreshing to hear/see unvarnished opinions. The equipment thing is actually funny but the truth is the players are much bigger/faster than 'the good ole days' and my opinion is larger ice surface is the only answer to REDUCING, not eliminating injuries.

WRONG---there is a lot of TRUTH in what Cherry says in regards to the equipment NOW compared to what they wore in "the good ole days". A suit of armor makes for less fear on the ice. PLUS, in "the good ole days," a_ sholes got an attitude adjustment when needed.

Don Cherry is the most interesting & entertaining color analyst in the history of the NHL ~ gotta love him!

Humility isn’t a word that people associate with Don Cherry. However the person we see on camera is far from that person. I’ve known folks who have met him away from the cameras and he is described as a caring individual. For me the absolute greatest facet of professional sports are the overachievers (e.g. Gretzky, Orr, Sittler and others) who remain humble while being great. There are far too many now who earn huge money and shout long and loud about how terrific they are and omit details about the fact that team games are just that. No one individual can win a team game on their own. I truly hope that there will always be those who never forget that TEAM philosophy is what makes the game(s) GREAT…

I’m from the Detroit area, right across the river from Windsor Ontario and grew up watching hockey night in Canada. I don’t agree with every single thing Don has said, but what he said last year shouldn’t have gotten him fired. Still Love Grapes. I still have the old VHS tapes of Rock em Sock em hockey.

I like hockey.

What a place example: all of the interlocking stones were white a had blue Maple leafs all over. The whole place was like that and it would take you a day to see it all. Saw the Connacher Brothers cottages as well - Ballard had them built I heard. 3 Exact copies of each other...and beautiful. All this on Lake Huron.

I don't always agree with Grapes on certain things, but i love him.

I'm biased, but I disagree with Grapes. I think Seattle would be a LEGIT hockey market where people would pay $60-$75 per ticket.
