I may have detected some sarcastic sentiment about Mahoo-suc from you😂 The old man and the rock -- you conquered it -- nothing can stop you now!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I have a retirement job in a pioneer village mercantile and love it -- really enjoy the little kids. That's my rather. Enjoy your break, drink some beer, have some laughs, then finish that damn trail!

Absolutely take a few days off for rest and recreation... You are so close to finishing and I am praying for your health, safety and mental strength to finish.. I appreciate your posts and will certainly miss them when this goal is accomplished. Good Luck and God Speed!

You are so wise John to take a break. That is the advantage of being a section hiker- you don't beat yourself up and have breaks. The arm and climb up Spec was the puts.

The notch was ridiculous, but you did it! Go have some fun! Pizza place!

Get your head straight, good call. I loved the Notch and that section, Maine was gorgeous! Pizza shop, I think a gift store would get boring, I need some action! Good luck in finishing!

that was a tough tough section. My hubby and I took a few days off too to get our heads on straight. Sure wish you had a partner or tramily. Really helps.

I laughed so hard as you handled the Famous Notch. I hated it! And my girlfriend loved it. We had a thunder and lightning storm in the notch. That will put the fear of God in you for sure. Good news is if you drop dead they will find you laying right on the rocks! John the next section is beautiful and you are getting closer to the lakes and dirt trail. Hang in there - you are so close!!!

I honestly didn’t mind the Notch all THAT much. But the climb up the Arm right after it is what I hated.

I hate to shop but hungry people can be mean. Gift shop if I must. Guess you won’t have trouble with an MRI after that. Talk about claustrophobic. Good job getting through. Congratulations on staying in one piece. If you had a fun hiking partner it might help pep you up. All I can say is, I’d love to be out there so try not to take it for granted. I know that probably didn’t help lol. I’ve heard thr arm is worse. I’d love to hear that rant. See your buddies and have a few drinks and eat up. Re-charge and go fishing. Hope you’re feeling better by now.😊❤

Absolutely agree with taking a few days off to do something other than hike/climb/crawl. The same activity day in and day out, every day without doing something else, even if it is your hobby or pastime, will get monotonous and wear you down. Go golfing, fishing, boating or whatever for a couple of days and re-charge. You’re almost there !!!

i totally agree with what you are saying, I would support some alternate routes of the AT, call it AT for Older hikers. I do hope you are able to get your head back into the hike and are able to finish

I don’t think it needs to be “easy”. But I just have a hard time understanding how someone can call it a hiking trail when there are parts where rebar ladders have to be drilled into sheer granite faces to allow someone to “hike” it. I guess there wasn’t any LNT concerns back when they laid out the trail and added all that permanent hardware… 🙄

So funny you put it that way. After I made the decision while I was on trail to take a few days off the very next song that came up on my playlist was Eminem’s “Lose Yourself”. The words in the song are about not missing your one shot or opportunity. All I could think was “I’m never going to be 1900 miles into this hike again, so I have to finish!”

I am going to start following you. This is the first time I have come across one of your videos. Very interested in doing this hike but I do not think I could do it on myself. I have four other hikers, through hikers I am watching Five stack has finished.. one other one is close to Katahdin, and the other two are in New Hampshire and just starting Maine. so I’ll be watching to see if you get back on trail. Maybe you take a drive over at the coast up or down the coast. I sure hope you get back on. I’m gonna go and check and see how old you are, lol.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I’m sorry you are alone. I think Nichols is still behind you. You need a tramily. Get your head back on straight toward big K. Have fun on the break.

Did Nickels and Frizzle pass you yet? I have following Stick the Eagle, who I know dropped off the trail for a while to work his Scout Camp job he loves. We’ll see him back on in about a month I guess. Nickels and Frizzle were hiking with him, or he with them, but now I follow them via their Instagram posts. Good luck. You’re too close now to quit.

@@wanttogo1958not yet. They’re going to be camping just past Grafton Notch tonight. So they’ll be less than 20 miles behind me starting tomorrow. They’ll Probably catch me in 2 or 3 days because I’m only doing 13 miles each of the next 2 days.
