My mother was very ill the last summer of her life. She was in a wheelchair and in and out of the hospital. A friend sent her a packet of Forget me note. She couldn't garden so we planted them in a pot on the deck. (She lived with us). It was a stressful time and the seeds were forgotten. I noticed on day in August that they were practically dead so I planted them in the yard, said maybe they would come back next year and bloom even though we knew she was not going to be here. My mother died in September. When we came back from the funeral I took a few minutes to walk in the garden and noticed something blue out of the corner of my eye. The forget me nots filled a whole section, a mass of blue, and some pink which I had never seen before. I truly believe that was a sign and those plants, or rather their descendants are still growing. Both of my sisters have taken some and planted in their yards but they never seem to last. They are known as Grandma's foget me nots and you can bet when we move a big bunch of them will be coming!

One of the reasons I always feel connected to you and Jill you remind me of my mom. She always saved seeds and cuttings from family plants. She always wore a bandanna or wrap around her hair like you and Jill when she was in the garden. My grandfather always planted his garden with a mule and plow even when they all had tractors. He always planted a couple of rows of just sunflowers for my grandmother to look at. After he died the garden stayed barren for a couple of years until my grandmother kinda off hand mentioned she missed looking at the sunflowers he planted her. My uncle came with one of his big tractors and plowed it up then planted the whole acre and a half in sunflowers and every year she was alive after that. Sunflowers will always hold a special place with me. Thanks for sharing about your mother in law. Keep up the good work and God bless you all. I bless you till next time

I was blown away that the sunflowers were your remembrance flowers for two people. My middle son, Tyler, passed away September 5, 2018 at the age of 27. When he would experience issues with his heart the last couple years prior to his passing and it would scare him, he would have me sing "You Are My Sunshine" to him. (The hospital never diagnosed him with a heart condition, and instead would just say he was having anxiety attacks or various other things, but it was diagnosed as a condition he had been suffering with for years during the autopsy and his death could have probably been prevented with proper diagnosis.) Anyway, Tyler probably helped keep David Seeds profits high with the amount of sunflower seeds he consumed. My sister had even bought him a box of sunflower seeds for his birthday in June before he passed and some of the packs we found in his truck after he passed. When he was staying with me for a little while not long before his passing over, if I would call to see if he wanted me to pick him up anything while I was out, or if he called me and asked me to pick something up for him was a pack of bbq, or whatever flavor he was in the mood for at that moment, of sunflower seeds. So many people told me sunflower seed stories about him after he passed as well, usually something along the lines of having found some seeds or shells in their car, or how many times he spilled his cup of shells in their car or whatever. He also loved hot sauce and put it on everything and would drink it right out of the bottle. When my sister asked me what foods she should have at his funeral, I said it didn't really matter as long as there was hot sauce and bags of sunflower seeds. I have been trying to get a house with some land for a garden for a while now and before he passed I was planning on planting some sunflowers to surprise him with his own collection of seeds and ever since he passed, well in between bouts of just not wanting to be around myself anymore, I have planned to plant a "Tyler Shane" garden full of sunflowers (and lots of sunshine of course) when I get that house and piece of land. (Maybe I should intersperse it with hot peppers too. 😉) I wanted to also let you know how often watching your channel, including your devotionals, has really helped lift my spirits.

My mother-in-law has filled the bed with all the flowers SiL loved: irises of all colors, daffodils, red Texas sage, etc. That garden is beloved here 💕 I never got to gift my abuelita the sunflowers I promised. I grew a bunch this year so I could still gift them to her, even though she’s gone, and I pray she’s enjoying them wherever she is now anyway. Since you just cut your stems off your roots your beans may just be the same plants from last year instead of seeding themselves. I haven't experienced that myself however, Liz Zorab has a couple videos where she has showed/talked about her beans doing that and she does it on purpose. I think it's fascinating that an annual can end up being a perennial unexpectant.

It will be a bittersweet day when you have to walk away from this garden and hand it to Jill. I don't know if I could do it. It sure helps that she is such a dear friend. Like having a friend adopt your baby.

I accidentally scattered seeds in 6 beds in my summer garden when the wind blew. Carrots, kohlrabi, broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower seeds blew out of my hand so anything growing will be a mystery 🤣 this summer 😂

Taking cuttings is such a special way to commemorate a property. My childhood home had a gooseberry bush on the property. I was so sad to leave, but we took a cutting of that bush and planted it in our next place(s). It was like we were bringing a part of our home with us...unfortunately we move around WAY too much and we lost track of it at house #3, but I would love to do it again if I was ever sentimental about a property or plant again!

I live in Maine so I'm still not quite in my growing season, (last frost may 15, but we had one last year in june. I have like 20 random buckets so i was able to save all of the plants i had risked planting.) Last year I left most of what was in the ground in the garden to die to let the roots rot in place and help break up my clay soil. I had kale last year last until November and theeeeeennn it survived the winter! the MAINE winter, no buckets or shelter and maybe a half an inch of wood mulch. Every time I go outside I see a couple new baby leaves pop out and it gives me so much hope. Plants want to grow. I was/am still looking forward to seeing what other volunteers and veterans I get.

Try air-layering your roses. I find they root with a lot less fuss that way and then you don’t have an extra thing to worry about while gearing up to move

I bought some "lost label" roses for cheap a long while back. They were all beautiful but I agree - definitely better to make sure if you want them neat around an arch! Love your volunteers and the wilder garden this year. Lovely ❤ Also great idea about leaving a tomato so we can learn. Thanks :)

Speaking of plants in memorial of loved ones, my MIL passed away last summer and last fall, on "Nature & Nuture" 's website, I see a tomato with her name " Rosella " . Of course, I bought it and have a few started to share with other family members.

Your peak season comes about 1.5-2 months before ours in Western Oregon. I keep thinking "Dang! I'm so behind," but then I check my forecast and am reminded that it's still 38 F at night, haha. I'm 69 and my baby is the largest garden I've ever had. About the size of a 3 car garage I'm doing 3' wide rows and I expect over 2-3 times crop as I have crowded my plants but lots of test methods and after starting seeds with grow lights I have lots of trial plants , Trying to find new favorite veggies. Thanks

Clip a small stem of all of your Rose's put them in water for two days then dirt for moving. Good idea to get the six pack or make up a larger rolled towel of dirt, some moisture and rose. cuttings.

Hi Jess, I hope you see this comment, your roses can be moved, if you want to move the whole plant wait for winter and prune down to 6 to 12 inches and plant in cardboard boxes, when ready just plant box and al!, For cuttings choose nice shoots cut with a heel of old growth at 45degrees and a growth point, cut the very bottom just flatten it of tatty bits, dip in rooting hormone and take lots of cuttings just to be sure.💖love my roses.
