This is exactly the kind of footage I was looking for, it's just there're so many speedbooster test footages on KZread that look all saturated and blurry, but this one looks perfect, very cinematic and with a great depth of field. Thank so much for uploading this.

No problem! 5D2 has better Low-Light and Dynamic Range which I didn't test much here, but yeah the EOS M is very good. 😎👍

Excellent. EOS M for Lego Movie work - noted. Again, kudos to your family for helping with these! My dad would have loved 10% of their commitment out of me to stay in shots when I was growing up.

No worries. Honestly, the Eos m is one of my favourite mirrorless cams! 😎👍

Love the look of what comes out of the EOS M colours seem brighter and image was sharper, as you say the foreground image seems more removed from the background on the EOS M. I bought my EOS M about 2 years ago following DSLR video shooters film about it using magic lantern, however you have taken it to another level, I had all but given up on magic lantern, your clear tutorials have brought it back in and I’m enjoying it again. Well done mate.

Immensely helpful. I had misgivings about the Viltrox, not having used it except for a very brief photo test on the M6II (before I returned that camera in favor of the M50). But you've set me straight - glad I didn't return the Viltrox. So, thank you. So reassuring to see the beautiful video out of the M series cameras on your channel, with and without a speed booster. In my ridiculously brief testing I really didn't like the look I got for photos out of the M6II with adapted Canon lenses (24-105 and 135/2). I'm not sorry I returned it and look forward to getting the M50.

In a blind test I would probably not be able to tell them apart. However there is something about full frame you just can't replace. But in real life lugging a full frame 5d2 around if you're after gun and run shots is pretty cumbersome and conspicuous. I could be convinced to get the EOS M with a Viltrox adapter.

the difference, as far as from a technical standpoint is, that full frame seems to give you a wider lens as compared to the m. Image quality wise, they're so freaking identical you can't really spot any differences: EXCEPT very minimal highlight differences. The m has slightly more higlight exposure. But that's all i could spot. really your splitting hairs at this point. Comes down to wider on the 5D vs a bit more punched in. But both are freaking amazing. I own the red and honestly at this point it's only for the "dog and pony show" for clients to justify a budget. but I'd swith the the m.

To think that the EOS M can get that close in quality video comparison to the 5D Mark II is just completely mind-blowing

That's good news. The settings haven't changed. What was fixed was a bug in 46/48/50FPS mode when enabling x3 crop as well. The screen would go pink/blue. Now it's fixed. If you're getting good stability, then that's great! :)

@@imribiy The settings in this video are exactly what I use: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qX6prKmbcrSckrA.html Check you're exposure EV 0.1-0.9. Not over, or above 1, unless no choice. Use a fast lens, e.g. f1.4, F1.8, F2. Kit lens are not the best choice.

I prefer the M too. I'm also a past owner of the OG BMPCC, Ursa Mini, P4K and 6K.

First of all, great test and thank you for doing this. I'd be curious to see a test where you backed up the M slightly so that it had the same field of view as the mkii. It'd be very similar I'm sure, but I'm just curious how it'd look.

After doing tests, the 5D2 detail is a bit better overall. It's a matter of preference, I can adapt more glass like FD or C Mount with the Eos m which makes me take it out more often. For full frame, I'd go with the 5D3. 😎👍

Today was my first day testing and I might have to get a mkiii for the 3.5k-ish continuous. I use Viltrox speed booster with mine and I love it. I've been taking dog portraits with a 70 - 200 sigma 2.8 and it's so easy to shoot at f 2.0 since you gain that extra stop. I absolutely love how is slightly vignettes and looks daydreamy in raw. One question with magic lantern: I can get continuous recording at 2.5 k for minutes or until I run out of space, but I get corrupted frames if I'm tied to an HDMI monitor. Does the HDMI output create problems

The Sigma 70-200mm 2.8 is a great lens, and yeah that extra stop helps create that full look. These high rez modes don't tend to work well with monitors due to the strain it places on the camera. I haven't tested 2.5K with a monitor in a while so I'll see how things turn out, but in general, MCM rewire 1080 and x3 crop are the only ones working well with monitors.

Yep, the EOS M is an awesome camera!

I have the 5D MII and the M50 with the speedbooster. And the speed booster has a really unique look to it. the bookeh ist beautifuly distorted while the subject within depth of field remains perfect. 3:10 and following are the best examples.

@@ZeekEOSZ yesterday I got a naked eos M from the german craigslist or you would say gumtree and you are 98% responsible for that. I only have an to CF adapted SD card in my 5D which cripples the writing speed but already have reasonably fast sd cards so I had no choice when I have to decide between expencive fast cf card or another camera :D

Most of these, especially outdoors are all @F1.4. Anything with a shallow depth of field in this video is pretty much F1.4. The others would be @ F4. Really beautiful lenses. Love them!.

Top level color correction. Both cameras are pretty good, can't see big difference. Great job

@@AirFlights Speedboosters are great for low light and obviously depth, but honestly, I would even be happy without one and the 1.6x crop isn't that bad, it has a filmic super 35mm or so look to it which I like. I wouldn't spend a lot on a speedbooster. The Canon FD Speedbooster is great and the Viltrox is good too. These will help in low light and create more of a pop, otherwise no speedbooster is still good.

@@ZeekEOSZ An adapter Viltrox without a lens is not worth buying? And the second question. For example, I have Helios 44m f2 58mm. With my 1.6 crop it turns out f3.2 93mm, the same? If I install the 0.71x speed booster, then do I need to multiply by what value in order to understand the native f2 / 58 or f3.2 / 93?

I found information about that is possible to get one more step of number F with the viltrox booster, I don't know if is posible to connect the adapter with full frame or apsc lenses on my 77D that give me the possibility to connect EF or EF-S lenses but a friend told me that is possible only with eos M cameras so what do you recoment me ? I have a 700-300 full frame and a 18-135 apsc . 🙄

The speedboosters are for mainly mirrorless cameras like the EOS M. Unfortunately not the 77D, 80D, 90D etc..your best bet are fast lenses like Sigma 30mm F1.4 or 18-35mm F1.8

Great work! I just got my eos m and I’m super excited. Do you have to have magic lantern on all of your cards? Does it save your configuration? I’ve got two cards and already have ml installed on one

Just the card you're going to use ML on. You can copy the files onto desktop and then paste those files onto different cards and then update Firmware which will transfer the settings from one card to the others. Congrats btw! 😎👍

Hi Zeek, been following you for a while and finally managed to get my hands on an Eos M! I've got a couple questions however, and I'm sorry if some of them sound really dumb, I've done lots of photography in the past but I'm definitely a novice in film. - I've noticed theres lots of different presets for 2.5k, 4k, even 5k. But assuming the raw output is only 1736x1158, aren't those resolutions just upscaled versions? Wouldn't it be more efficient to film in the maximum raw output then upscale in post? - My camera tends to have pink frames and doesn't like to record more than a second in any mode other than the mv1080p MCM rewire... is this a problem with my SD card? I'm using a samsung evo plus microsd, I can't find the SD overclock feature anywhere either. - I don't know what build you've been using, but the latest one on danne's builds is the april 29th, which seems to be a lot slower than the examples you show in video. Thanks for making all this content and I hope you can help me with these few things.

Hi Alan, no problem. You said the key word - "SD Card". Sorry to say, but for the EOS M, or ML Raw in general, the Samsung EVO Sucks!! I have two of them which I got a while back for the Eos M thinking they would be great, but they kept screwing up, stopping recording for no reason, pink frames. Simple answer Don't use them! SanDisk Extreme PRO are MUCH better and even Lexar PRO 1000x. Overclock feature is automatically installed into the build, no need to enable each time. Raw output can be greater than 1736x1158 thanks to the crop modes, which is why they are cropped - to achieve those specific resolutions. I use a 4K Monitor now and really do love MCM Rewire 1080, but the 2.5K, 3K and the 4/5K Timelapse look really good on the 4K display, worth every penny if you need good resolution. I love the film, 80's Color and texture look with the MCM rewire 1080 mode. They're all good stuff! 😉👌🎥

@@MunchMoar Well you wonder why the M50 has a 2.5x crop in 4k. Raw holds a lot of information. I upscale to 4k in mlv app and place the files in a 4K timeline, I don't shoot in 4K, the upscale detail is better than no upscale.

Thanks for this video. It looks like both eos m and 5d mark ii have the same dynamic range. Does this mean that magic lantern gives almost a similar dynamic range irrespective of any camera? If eos 700d is used instead of eos m then would it give the same dynamic range performance as eos m?

Likely so. 5D2 does have more DR, 6D even more. With ML Raw, DR is very good on all these cameras. Low light is better with 5D3/6D, therefore you can underexpose and recover better shadow area .

Just came across this video and found it interesting. I've been now shooting with M6ii+speed booster, but have been looking at 5D Mark III or better yet, 5D Mark IV, looking and wondering :). In light of the price for a full frame, I'm inclined to stick with m6ii. The speed booster turns the field of view to 33.8mm compared to 36mm on full frame. That's good enough, especially when you can stack several images and process them as HDR for a more detailed result. Seems like a no-brainer. Any thoughts?

You're better of with a camera that can shoot a LOG profile or RAW. Which in this case the 5D3 can with Magic Lantern. I owned the M6II, and it has nice colours, just a lot of highlights being clipped due to the profiles. I'm happy now using the Sony ZV-E10, but I guess Full Frame will have that Pop effect for sure.

Hi Zeke! I love your videos! I'm now thinking of getting an EOS M to pair with my A6300 for documentary work. They're super cheap here in the Philippines! Cheapest I found was $140. I have a few questions about exporting. 1. Inside the MLV app, instead of grading inside there, can I just export it right away to CinemaDNG and grade in Resolve? Do you think there's still a lot of info since I'm still exporting to a RAW codec? 2. Can I just import the .mlv files straight to DaVinci Resolve or do I have to convert it into CinemaDNG? 3. Do you have any footage available to download for practice? Thank you so much!

Yep. But you would need to use crop modes to avoid the vignette.

I would like to know about continuous video on the EOS M - I just got bits to add to mine, (monitor, handles, lights etc.) - Can I add an external SSD to allow long record time and what quality can I get with that? CAn it be run with contunuous input to a computer to store the video? I also bought an SD wifi card for this - will that work or is it too low bandwidth for decent video? Kepp up the great work !

Yep, all continuous Raw. No external SSD with this one. We're not shooting 4K Raw so we have plenty of space. I have shot like 200 clips with just a 64GB SD Card. 256GB Should be a good amount for great storage. I use 64 and 128GB. Love the raw footage coming out of this camera, it's used all over my channel. The wifi card should work to transfer photos, I know of Eye-fi Mobi transfer. Never used these though. Cheers! 😉👍

Hey Zeek, I use windows 10 and I am having a big distracting problem. Normally I use EOSHD-C-LOG as a profile for both pictures and raw videos but every time I export them to my laptop, the laptop automatically changes them to auto, so I don’t see the footages with the profile C-LOG, the same experience I faced using MLV app, the app import the raw videos and changes the profile automatically, I am really upset. Please, do you know how to sort out that problem, or can someone who reads this comment give a solution. Thanks

The key word here is Raw. Picture profiles are baked in h.264 codec. Raw is straight from the sensor, it's up to you in mlv app to decide what to process the files as e.g. Alexa LOG C, Slog3, Rec709 etc... In MLV Producer, I believe you can process the raw files into C-log or so. But yeah, PP's are mainly for h.264 video or photos. Raw is data straight from the sensor. I use Cinestyle btw, love it for photos.

with a hi speed 64 or 128gb card can I record videos in 1080p raw and whats the time limit?

Until the card fills up. It's continuous RAW with 1080 [1736x976] Mode.

I'm looking to get a 5d mark iii and a eos M but I saw that the 70d has a build in progress in ML website so I don't know what to get now. 70d is the only camera in ML to have Dual Pixel AF and that is a good reason to get it. What do you think? have you tried it? Thanks, amazing content!

I've never tried the 70D as I never really needed the DPAF. I don't think it's continuous Raw unless you bring down the resolution. Also not sure if it shoots in lossless formats like the 5D3 & Eos m. The 5D3 has no aliasing and can shoot 60fps. You can also use your phone as a monitor. The 70d to me seems to lack modern development.

The 5Diii definitely. The EOS M would be good with the 18-35 or other fast wides e.g. 16mm F1.4 and the X3 crop mode or 2.5K raw or Anamorphic mode which have no aliasing.

Kit lens indoor isn't the best. You need a better Aperture lens like F1.4 or F1.8. I like the 7Artisans 25mm F1.8 or Canon EF-m 22mm F/2 Better are these lenses in low light 👍🎥🔥

I bought this camera for shutterstock purpose. 2 footages have been approved, thank to God, but 14 footages rejected. While all photos are rejected as well, I uploaded 30+ photo! The 5D2 creates super footage in the 1080 mode compared to the M, but can become obsolete due to aliasing. The EOS M on the other hand can shoot with more modes that reduce the presence of aliasing. So I choose the M over the 5D2.

did you have to iso compensate the 5d2 to get the same exposure?

I didn't use an ND as it would influence the image and cause too much disparity. Both 1/50, ISO 100, WB 5400K and then increased the shutter speed to match them both.

非常好，有个问题，5D2怎么4K全屏录制，我用的固件只能上下有黑边的录制，之后在剪辑软件里调整长度3倍。另外，录制的时候，前13秒出来的画面有很多白紫色的竖条，13秒之后才消失，是不是我的相机感光元件快坏了，可是普通录像就没有这开始的竖线。还有就是感光元件有坏点，我看MLV APP里面好像有修复的选项。希望能出一个教程。十分感谢。

Hey Zeek can you provide some downloadable raw (ungraded)files from both the EOS M and the 5D? Preferably somewhere with a high dynamic range. Like by an open window with a dark room and a human face. I'm hoping to play around with the footage in an Resolve to see if I want to invest. Hoping for as close to a 0 crop as possible and maybe a shot or two with some of that 2.9x 2.5k crop goodness.

I've recorded myself with the EOS M for a very long time on youtube, often by my window. A lot of my past videos were done like this.

They're both good. 5D has better resolution for 1080 mode, but both are good. For higher resolution I prefer the EOS M RAW 2.8K.

Are you using the cable that came with the EOS M? Have you installed EOS Utility?

@@ZeekEOSZ I bought second hand and there were no usb cable. But I tried with 6 different cables. Both EOS Utility 2 and EOS Utility 3. 3 says; "Camera not recognized". 2 says; "Failed to connect with camera check connections." I couldn't try it with another pc. Can you use eos m with catalina?

It's night now. I just bought a new cable for the Eos m having lost mine. I have Catalina too. I haven't tried connecting the Eos m in a while to the mac, so I'll give it a go soon! Why do you need to connect if I may ask?

Hey Erdem, I checked it out. It worked with the usb cable, the only thing is the EOS M can't be used as a webcam with the EOS Utility. The canon capable of using EOS Webcam Utility are listen in the official site here: www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/self-help-center/eos-webcam-utility/

Yes I have. Works fine but looks like a movie rather than a video 🤣 plus workflow is a little slower, unless working with DNG and Resolve/Premiere.

No problem. There are many EOS M Models. This is the EOS M Original Version. This and the M2 are the only ones so far that can record with Magic Lantern Raw Video.

Yep, you get an extra stop of light. My F1.4 lens become F1.0

5D2 better price and slightly better dynamic range according to DXO Mark. 5D3 has zero aliasing in RAW Video. The 5D2 can be quite minimal with this regards in comparison to other cameras. The 5D3 is like the perfect ML Camera currently, but I enjoy using the 5D2 and EOS M - Both can bring stunning footage as well as the 5D3 if you can get it cheap. I used to own the 5D3. But I have a Pocket 4K so I enjoy that in the high price range cameras.

Yes I do. I place the footage in a 3840x2160 Timeline in Resolve. I don't use super scale. No problem!

how about eosm comparing to 5d3

I don't own the 5D3 anymore. The field of view obviously wouldn't change between these two. 5D3 has no aliasing and shoots 1920x1080. I like the form factor of the EOS M and the lens adaptability. It's my favourite, especially with 7Artisans lenses.

the only thing that doesn’t appeal to me on the EOS M is the body, it’s very "simple" if it were mounted on a body with an electronic view finder maybe it would be better

It's continuous Raw 10/12 bit. 12/14bit hard to tell a difference between the two. The developer may introduce 14 bit lossless to the 5D2 which will give continuous Raw and less file size.

No frame skipping, no bricking. I just use the normal 1856x1040 RAW, never had any issues. Been using this stuff for years! The 5DII uses CF Cards. No issues at all, it's a full-frame raw beast at it's price point. The EOS M RAW is great too, used it all over my KZread for almost everything
