Full Flight: Delta Air Lines B757-200 Pittsburgh to Paris (PIT-CDG)

Hey guys! Here's my first flight across the pond once again on route to Krakow, Poland. This flight was very special for me as it was the first time in a long while I got to fly directly to Europe from Pittsburgh - and boy was it sweet. Getting to avoid the busy mega airports in JFK, ATL, PHL, IAD, and so on was super nice. I found the flight itself very enjoyable as well. The service was great, the food was descent for an airplane, and the seats/legroom was pretty good for a long economy flight. Nicely done by Delta! Hope you guys enjoy!
Takeoff: Pittsburgh International Airport
Landing: Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport

    31:47 I love how you can see the antenna and radome shadows on the winglet, and then the much larger tailfin itself as the aircraft banks in the early morning sunlight. Beautiful! Very good video all around. I'm not as influential as Siskel and Ebert - and well, they're gone now - but I give this two thumbs up!

    I remember when USAirways has the non-stops to London, Paris, and Frankfurt. Those were the days of travel from Pittsburgh.Sad that the Allegheny Co. Commissioners and USAirways couldn't work out their differences. This airport is so under-used in America. What a shame.

    I completely agree. But in the modern air industry, I think PIT as a hub would've been dismantled anyways down the line. Its just how it is now unfortunately. That's where airlines such as Southwest come in greatly now because they don't follow the hub and spoke system like the others. Great comment and thanks for watching!

    I remember the end of the years when, if it had an airport, you could fly there from Pittsburgh. From my home in Pittsburgh to our cabin 2 hours north of Ottawa would take about five hours, door to door. Visit family in Dayton? Sure. Ithaca? Of course! Huntington, WV? Why not? Inlaws across the pond? Change planes in Heathrow and you’ll be there for supper. US Air served every little field in Pennsylvania from there. Now i have to change planes to go everywhere aforementioned with at least one plane change, almost always in an asinine location. Flew to Ottawa, had to fly through Detroit and Toronto, flying through three states twice, and was still the fastest option.

    When I come back from a large airport like Chicago, New York, Newark, or San Francisco, I am coming back to a ghost town. It feels eerily quiet in PIT. Last time I came back from a trip, we were the only plane in the entire airport!

    A few years ago BA did operate a direct flight from LHR, later transferred to LGW. Unfortunately, BA did not find the route profitable and it was abandoned. Later US Airways operated a service from LGW to Pittsburgh. I can remember the last time I flew this route to London the cabin was only about a quarter full. Not long after that US Airways closed their operation on this route. It's strange how London/ Pittsburgh has never worked out.

    I do like the 757-200s..I have flown those aircraft to Hawaii from LA. The 757s can fly those good distances but I just always like to fly the First Class cabin I them. I have noticed that United does have Business Class on a few of their 757s. But when WI do fly in the Economy Cabin, I always try to get the Exit Row aisle seats for the good legroom. That is normally row 8..I am glad you are a nice trip there to Paris.. Have a great summer and fly safe.

    That's truly remarkable that Delta would offer a non-stop flight from Pitt to London on a narrow body 757; normally would be from one of their hub cities like Cincinnati, Minneapolis, Atlanta, etc?

  • @jtkm

    What do you think about the future of the service? Condor released season PIT to Frankfurt flights, and WOW Air launched year round transatlantic Reykjavik flights. Do you think more competition will be better or worse for Delta?

  • @thejazzguy13

    @thejazzguy13

    7 жыл бұрын

    Well, I think the competition definitely won't help Delta out, but I do think they're still good with the seasonal service. I think there's enough demand that all three routes can survive, and I strongly believe PIT could also add a London route as well. That'd probably be the most popular option. Business travelers also are more likely to choose Delta over leisure carriers like WOW and Condor (even though they offer business class). I flew this flight back and forth and both times the business class was booked solid. I do think though any hope of the service going year round now is shot for PIT. Thanks for the comment and for watching!

    Starting next year (2018), Delta Airlines will use a wide-body Boeing 767-300 for this route, which will be a definite improvement. Unfortunately, they will also shorten by nearly a month the time period for which this flight operates, with the last flight taking place on September 4, instead of the end of September. Flight numbers will also be changed from DL96 to DL124 for the Pittsburgh to Paris flight and from DL97 to DL125 for the Paris to Pittsburgh flight.

    I'm guessing the "chainsaw" noise is the PTU equalizing hydraulic pressure when one of the engines was shut down to save fuel during the taxi. It seems to start about the right time for it to be PTU. But I've never heard one sound like that... ESPECIALLY on a Boeing aircraft. (They sound kinda like a mix of an old Dodge starter and a dog barking on A320's.) This aircraft entered service in early 1998 with TWA during their restructuring, became part of American during the takeover, and was sold to Delta in 2001. It has been in service for almost 19 years. Perhaps it's time to service or replace the PTU...

    i was working that day but didn't work the Paris flight. Im a delta ramp agent and that day was annoying. an A319 came in at one point and the team lead told me and my friend to wait in the bin for more bags then he left for a few minutes. The rain was so hard and wind so strong me and my friend felt the plane shake a bit while we waited.

    Nice trip report. It's funny to read all the pissing and moaning about a single aisle plane. If you're as old as I am, you remember flying on 707s and DC-8s, and they were perfectly fine. And I've flown transatlantic from Newark many times on the 757. It's the same seat as a widebody. I thought it was fine.

  • @thejazzguy13

    @thejazzguy13

    Thanks! Yah tell me about it...it truly is not that bad. I think a lot of people are comparing this flight and plane to their domestic flights across the US - which is inaccurate. Delta uses completely different models and interiors of the 757 for their transatlantic routes, so it's a much better experience (just like flying any wide body overseas).

    757-200 is is too small of a narrow body aircraft to go from pitsburg to Paris. Wouldn’t delta use a a330 instead? Because it’s a long haul flight.

    Were there any announcements in French? At 21:35 - dear God, what is that spooge? It appears there are going to be lots of A321 Neo XLR (narrow body) trans Atlantic flights- and I'm getting the impression from "influencers" that narrow bodies are sub-standard for such "long" flights. But it looks ok to me. What do you think?
