Yes it is but at least you don't have to worry about being punished for hitting to hard. I've been in plenty of karate tournaments and if you accidentally hit a bit too hard in the face or the head in general they gave you a fault instead of points

This is a great demonstration of Shotokan strenghts: Even though the cardio or stamina of the german was better, he was less precise. The Greek shotokan practiotioner was breathing heavily since the end of round 1, but going back and striking precise shots diffused the pressure. The German could was breathing well, but he took much damage. Precise shots to the head.

I agree but while shotokan was more precise and landed the strikes that mattered the most, the kyokushin fighter had really good ability to take of the damage and continue pressing, if he was from a club that practised face punches aswell the result could have been different

Absolutely brilliant performance by the Shotokan fighter, Stefanos. Controlled the distance the entire fight. Point-style Karate like Shotokan gets a lot of flak for 'not looking like real fighting' but it really trains fighters to develop long maai (striking range), distance control, lightning-quick retreats, and evasion, and it really shows in this fight, in stark contrast to Maximillian's Kyokushin-style, which practices durability over evasion. Sure, Kyokushin's conditioning is top-notch, and Max could probably take 10x more of those hits, but he was outpaced through the whole match because he just couldn't close the distance with his shorter attack range. His constant forward movement just made it way easy for Stefanos to measure distance accurately every time. He just needed to wait. Fighting isn't a contest of durability. If you can't catch it, you can't hit it.

Totally agree with you. It show the many weakness of Kyokushin, and I say that as former Kyokushin practicioner. We should also remember that Maximilian is also trained in Muay Thai and Muay Boran. If he only trained Kyokushin things would be even worse for him.

I believe Shotokan can also be trained in a full contact manner; if you ask me.. that Shotokan guy gave a hell-of-a-barrage of a close distanced attack; closing in the gap and throwing punches… in my believe its good to learn full contact as well as point contact sparring as the usual Shotokan does.. it trains you for quick jabs/attack and retreat in response to opponent’s counter attack.. and repeat… both schools of Karate are amazing.. (Am a Judoka and Kyokushin Karateka looking to add Shotokan into my arsenal)

Aliás, ninguém no Kyokushin supera.

Kyokushin guy is weak at 1. Face punch 2. Distance control. This is why Kyokushin, who values real fighting, has the irony of being weaker than traditional karate in real fighting.

Bro the Shotokan guy wouldn't have came straight from his dojo to this fight with no full-contact cross training prior LOL.. Or else he would get wiped from literally never experienced hitting or being hit.

The fights are disgusting, pure shotokan, it should be called shotokan kombat and not karate kombat, if they put another style like kyokushin they put a rookie kyokushin , invite kyokushin champions.

It just shows how limited Kyokushin is. Neither there are "champions", they are in the same level and the kyokushin guy took a terrible beat.

An Olympic karate competitor won against kyokushin. This destroys all the false theories said by someone.🫢
