    Also the entire game depends on how fast the host reads the clues and how long the clues are. No way to fix that.

    6:47 - Wait, wait, hold on, wait. Did he just have a correct answer ruled wrong because he gave it "too soon", in a *timed* game? Yeah, I'm calling bullcrap on that one. You had me with Ahmad Rashad (welcome back to the genre, we missed you!), but that kind of rule is BEYOND stupid.

    I dislike that rule often too, but it's in a lot of shows with clues (Jeopardy! is probably the most famous... you can't ring in until the host finishes). So it's annoying, but just a way to fully get the clue said. Whew! by Tom Kennedy in 1980 is another example. A show in which time was crucial, but had to wait until the fill blooper was read.

  • @lobstertexas

    @lobstertexas

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@woflover I do remember when Jeopardy! did allow buzzing-in while Alex read the question (it would make a little "boop!" sound) but the problem was that people buzzed in immediately the moment the answer appeared (yes, Alex still read the whole thing, whoever rang in first still got to answer) and so basically, if someone was a whiz at a category, you'd hear "I'll take Botany for $600 (BOOP!)" .. literally the millisecond the answer was revealed. So in that context, that was annoying. But in Whew's case, you're right, because it's a race, they should totally be able to speak over Tom (and a few times I've noticed he's stumbled a little when reading the blooper, making it take longer)

  • @woflover

    @woflover

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@lobstertexas Yep! But the Jeopardy! example was just given to show that players are penalized now (after the first two seasons of ringing in whenever you want) for ringing in too early, just like here when someone answers too early.

    It's good to see the great Ahmad Rashad hosting a word game show again, but unfortunately this is show is dreadfully boring after about five minutes. Some (fun!) observations: The gameplay does not build any excitement and the build-up to the end was very anti-climactic. The use of fake audience laughter and applause track during the (way too long) interview portion was very uncomfortable and strange, are people at home is fooled ever fooled that there's an audience full of people in attendance on these shows? The flag gimmick is .. well.. kind of dopey. Typical GSN generic public domain-sounding synth theme song... it's all so lazy, c'mon guys :p .. Why do they continue to trot out this low-level stuff when there are tons of cool word games to be had?

    " The use of fake audience laughter and applause track during the (way too long) interview portion was very uncomfortable and strange, are people at home is fooled ever fooled that there's an audience full of people in attendance on these shows?" You do know that prior to the shit show of 2020 (COVID-19), there were audiences at GSN shows? I mean I think GSN is the only game show not opening the studio to audiences yet. I mean FFS, Catch 21, Idiotest, Winsanity, Divided had literal people shown on screen behind the players. America Says has people shouting answers when the teams fail to fill the board. MAYBE, just maybe... The audio is so terrible, the producers erred on the side of caution and decided to pipe it in?

    @@retched Correct, indeed I do know, as I've actually been a contestant on three GSN shows (Friend or Foe, Lingo, Catch 21) - and while, yes, there was a real audience for Catch 21 and others (FOF and Lingo absolutely had piped-in laughter/applause) I'm not talking about the shows you've cited; I'm talking about the show referenced in the clip we're currently commenting on. And if you watched the clip, there is no mistaking the unnatural and odd timing and sounds of "laughter" and "applause" typical of canned fx used on low-level shows like this. Certainly you're not suggesting that because they've used audiences on a handful of shows that what we hear here is a real actual audience?

    Because these networks exist only to show ads. Watch gsn during the day it's all medicare ads. Old ppl in nursing homes keep this network alive. Not anyone under 50 lol. Hence the same crap and generic programming. Nobody even wins money, it's all actors I've heard and it feels like it. Who gets that excited over ten grand? That's the top prize on this network lol, not even a lot of money in this shite era... 100% acting and it's sad ppl fall for it

    @@bobsagert2276 No. People win money on this. They just get told to hype it up like 10K/25K is a lot of money. That's it.

    @@bobsagert2276 True about the ads, though I'll give you insight on the contestants because I was one ;) -- It did occur to me that they advertise locally for contestants because nobody in their right mind would fly across the country twice (to audition, then to appear) on a show with the top prize of $10k unless they're insane and wanted to be on a game show -- with the exception of myself :D .. The other contestants I've met all do seem to be "typical Los Angeles-area applicants for things" which usually does consist of budding actors who seek to be on television for literally anything and everything they can get, whether it's a bit-part in a commercial, being a sit-com extra, or being on one of these game shows. That's kinda why a lot of these contestants mostly come off as dense and somewhat stupid, all do respect to the folks who do the whole acting hustle. Having said all that, I can definitely tell you they do pay... they have to. (Consider if they didn't have to pay they might as well act like they're giving away $1m) .. Anyway...
