But the main reason Patty probably gets more leeway from the studio is because her vision is likely closer to the mainstream uplifting pop culture type of film that most general audiences seem to like. Whereas Gulermo has a very weird macabre anti mainstream vision generally. So its not a matter of being Better more so just having different taste and sensibilities.

It's really sad that the media frenzy around her when she was younger closed her off to the world, she had such a bright personality and years of being torn to shreds by stories has meant a public appearance is rare now.

You dont have 6 kids with a guy then suddenly decide he is the devil! does that make any sense?

@@earlysummerz2442even though the FBI report after that aeroplane incident showed the children all telling the same story. They were terrified of their drunken father. He poured beer on those poor children whilst they were sleeping and had a physical fight with Maddox. Angelina got in the middle and got hurt. Whilst he has sorted himself out and is probably a lovely person whilst sober, never underestimate what this does and how it changes people. Fair play to Angelina for taking the children from that environment, but also moving into a house down the street so that they could still see their Dad once he had sorted himself out. Children aren't stupid, they see everything. The way they look at their mother with love can't be denied.

I mean I don't care about her it's the american society I hate on that point. How can a people tend to be so fake instead of accepting who they are? La culture de l'image is so developped that everything looks fake in the end, from the physical appearence to one's behaviour. Look at the US porn industry : only a very few women look natural and lovable, all the others look generic and fake from head to toe. Look at the 60+ politicians : the biggest freak show on earth!

I never leave negative, or really any, comments on KZread videos, but as a film student these roundtables are my favorite things on KZread. And I understand stand Stephen Galloway is doing his best, but the way he interrupts people is really frustrating. I would LOVE to just see these directors interact with and converse with each other with guided conversation rather than just question and answer. If you do that then these videos are just like any other interview. I really hope these round tables continue. The interview style just needs to change. I do not mind if Stephen stays. He just needs to adjust the way he moderates these discussions. I wanna hear every little things that comes out of the directors/actors mouths. So the interruptions make them hard to watch. Matthew Belloni is great at these.

12:50 It is so fitting that Angelina talks about her experience in that jungle, and the spiritual moment she had. Sitting next to her is Guillermo who not only completely believes in spirits and ghosts, but he also understands that ghosts are rarely malevolent. Spirits are echoes, reflection of evils committed on this earth in past, and present. They can do you no harm, and you can learn a lot from them if you stop and listen. True monsters, true harm comes in physical form. They wear the faces of men. Me personally, I've never experienced nor am particularly keen in indulging in belief or practice of anything related to spirits. But far better men than I are convinced that spirits are real. Who am I to say they are wrong? Science has not yet proved they don't exist, nor that they do. So for now, I will keep that as my opinion. I just don't know yet. However, I have come to truly appreciate the fact that spirits; if they do exist, are to be shown respect and compassion, and this is partly due to Guillermo and his works.

Angelina Jolie is simply brilliant. I love all the other directors, but she has a special genius that makes her see things from such an original angle all the time. For example, the way she answered the very last question, pointing out that it's not the place where the camera is set, but the outcome and that we witness so much destruction and violence and we don't change. Where should we place the camera in order to change? I just love her.

13:08 - 16:08 it was SO rude that Angelina finished telling the hell of an emotional story, the director from Montreal (don't remember his name) asked her a question about it because he had an experience himself on the subject but the interviewer cut the communication to ask HIM to tell his story first and never let it come back to Angelina. Is that desperation to participate and lead the table all the time to the point you cut two directors interacting on a beautiful emotional common ground? I'm so pissed off

yes! i was so frustrated by that. he really wanted to hear an answer from Angelina and get her experience from that, ( and it was an interesting question- so i was curious to hear if she had a story of someone telling her something). but then the moderator frames it as - well, lets hear your answer FIRST and we'll switch back to her. so we hear his answer and you can see the moment after, he's expecting the attention to go Angelina to answer what he'd asked originally. right around 16:07. but suddenly 16:09 the moderator just asks a different question to someone else. completely skipping Angelina, who was the person on the receiving end of the question in the first place. smh this part and some other parts. galloway was absolutely interrupting the flow. the directors had a good vibe going and reacting well to each other but galloway chopped it up. it's really unfortunate when the members sitting at the table have something to say and they're cut off instead. this is supposed to be a roundtable discussion and the moderator should step in when it's needed or rewording a question to focus the answer but it really wasn't necessary for him to interrupt at most parts when he did. rather than letting the members dictate the flow and seeing where the conversation goes, what topics to bring up.... increasingly galloway turns it into Q&A and metaphorically passing the mic over. then it's just like any other panel and interview at other places. it's not roundtable discussion in that regard

When Joe Wright referred to the hypothetical director as 'he' he pulled himself back on it and said- "I just said 'he' that's interesting," then corrected it to 'they'. But just after this happens the moderator starts talking about the director as a 'he' and kept doing it, without any kind of awareness that he was amongst female directors at the same table. Interesting..

Del Toro is an absolutely brilliant person and director. Introspective, funny, warm, honest, endlessly creative and artistic, yet so humble and self evading, he’s kind of my dream of the perfect person to fall in love with. And his films are extraordinary. He’s made many wonderful movies including The Shape Of Water. But it’s his Pan’s Labyrinth that is a true masterpiece of filmmaking. It’s hypnotically beautiful, mythic and scary, darkly whimsical, yet stark and filled with reflections on the horrors of the reality of war, class and gender disparity and desperation, domestic abuse, and the horrors that the narcissist, sociopathic pathology, when given power, can inflict on the world and those around them. This film stirs my soul every time I see it. It’s simply a perfect film. In every way. It’s a dissection of the difficult choices people with little power must make to survive in the world with those who hold all the power. And wield it cruelly, tyrannically and viciously, even abusively. It’s a bold, unique, socially and politically relevant film wrapped in the gossamer tissue paper of a fairy tale. When it’s really more, so much more, than that. Love that film so much. One of my all time favorite films. Thank you Mr. Del Toro for giving this masterpiece to the world❤️
