It's prohibited for a muslim to address a non-Muslim as 'brother' unless he is his biological brother from his mother or father or both. True brotherhood in Islam is based on faith. Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen wrote: "There is never brotherhood between Muslims and Christians. True brotherhood in Islam is based on faith (Eemaan); Allah, The Exalted, says (what means): {The believers are but brothers...} [Quran 49:10] ... A believer can never be the brother of a Kaafir (disbeliever) ... it is impermissible for the Muslim to describe a non-Muslim as a brother, be he a Christian, a Jew, a fire-worshiper, or an atheist ... It is prohibited to call a non-Muslim a brother under any circumstances...”

@@truthseeker96 Granted that while that opinion is out there (see Shaikh Ibn Uthaymeen), there are other equally valid opinions that the matter is something based on intention. If one were to mean brother in faith or brother in blood, it is impermissible. Likewise is it impermissible if this "brotherhood" is given more value than one given to your actual brother or the brotherhood with any Muslim. BUT, if the intention is to call them brother in humanity, as sharing a commonality with them as children of Adam, this is not impermissible as Allah addresses all of humanity (Quran (7:26, 7:27, 7:31, 7:35, 7:172, 17:70, 36:60) as children of Adam which denotes brotherhood or sisterhood derived from this shared lineage. Also, when the Qur'an tells the Story of 'Ad in Surat Al-Araf (7:65) it states that their brother, Prophet Hud(pbuh), was sent to them as a prophet. "And to the 'Ad [We sent] their brother Hud. He said, "O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him. Then will you not fear Him?" While it could be correctly pointed out that the 'Ad were the people of Hud (pbuh), hence why he may be referenced as their brother, it is unlikely that Hud would have been the blood brother of every member of the 'Ad. Nor was Hud their brother in faith, before or after he warned them. The 'Ad were largely disbelievers and were ultimately destroyed for their disbelief. So herein is an exception from the Qur'an to the parameters mentioned by Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen (rahimahullah) in his fatwa. Allah knows best.

He wasn't apologetic for going to Leicester to face those cowardice thugs, he wasn't apologetic for being proactive, he wasn't apologetic for anything except perhaps some of his comments with regards to reincarnation which may have offended hindus. I guess they would respond that they would have did the same to the Hindu equivalent, had they been interviewing such a non-existent person. I personally don't think they would have, though - the western media is a forcefully extremist entity that callously pursues an agenda set by the governments.

The reporter is to be commended for having the courage to end her typically provocative line of questioning. As a Canadian, who have watched countless smear interviews against people who do not espouse the dominant views in the UK. This reporter was absolutely respectful. Mohamed Hijab defused her questions and she backed off when she realized that Mohamed Hijab understood where she was going with this line of questioning.

It's like knowing somewhere deep down that you are doing something wrong, but managing to suppress it when your mind questions your behavior, but when outsiders point it out, you take a defensive stance. That's what's happening here.

The fact channel 4 only showed 5 minutes of this video and not release the full shows u smashed them

She literally asked the same question 4 times. Why do that? Hijab handled each appropriately.

I attended Media training over 15 years ago, and I want to say mashaaAllah Muhammad Hijab is showing good skill in this interview and many of our Imams/Leaders could do with some of these skills. I also feel as though the media also hands picks the wrong people to represent Islam so that the Muslim community is not properly represented and their agenda is further pushed.

Without doubt the media pushes a certain image of islam by using extreme examples of Muslims, whether that's violent extremists, ultra liberals or people who just don't know much about Islam or those who can articulate their knowledge in English. In this case they were given the information but simply chose to ignore it in their broadcasted version of the interview.
