Congratulations on covering all 4 of the major expansions for Catan! Now that you've done that, could I ask you rearrange the playlist into an order that makes sense? It's just weird that the video for the base game is #3, and that the video introducing Traders and Barbarians is in between the followup videos explaining the last 2 scenarios in more depth (and both of those are also out of order). I see you have 4 more private vids in this playlist, so I'm guessing you are also going to be covering Legends of the Sea Robbers and Legends of the Conquerors next? Looking forward to those!

The rules say you can only discover sea hexes with a ship. Can you explain how the ship must be facing to discover the sea hexes that are inland?

Will you be making more videos on the Dragons, treasures, and adventures expansion for Catan?

Appreciate this video. My son and I have been trying to figure this one out. Is the one dice roll for fishing in addition to your normal role? Also can you do the one dice roll at anytime or only when your ship is on the fish hex? Thanks!

Thank you! Yes, the fishing roll is done in addition to your dice roll for resources. You may roll the die to try to place a fish haul on one of the discovered fish shoal hexes. This can be done before moving one of your ships or after moving one of your ships. You may never interrupt a ship’s movement to roll the die. This roll can only be made once on your turn.

This didn’t quite answer as that’s verbatim from the instructions. To clarify, we can roll once per turn NO MATTER WHAT, regardless of where are boats are. I understand we can only pick up fish if we are next to it with empty boat.

​@@GamesMadeEasy I second the question. @calliebeth was wondering if you can roll for fish to show up no matter where your boats are or if it is just if your boat is near the hex. Is that the case or do you need to have your boat by the hex?

Hi so in the game manual it says once you discover a tile a ship loses all its remaining movement points and it also says that you can only load/unload if you have movement points. Am I just confused? Cause it seems like after discovering you wouldn’t be able to pick up fish as well

Hi Will, yes you are correct, discovering a hex ends the ship's movement. If you’ve just discovered a fish shoal hex, it doesn’t yet have fish on it. The way I interpret the rules is that since you can roll for fish once per turn, at the beginning or at the end of the ship's movement (not during), so if you haven't rolled for fish yet, then you can roll for fish now. If you are lucky enough to find fish on this number, you place the fish there. Now, the rules state that “loading and unloading a ship costs no movement points. You may continue to move a ship after loading or unloading, provided that it still have movement points." The loading/unloading relates to movement but it doesn't mention you can't load/unload if you don't have movement points. The way I see it is that your ship can now catch (load) the fish you’ve just found in the hex you've just discovered. The example in the rules they give says : "If you have moved your ship to a fish haul and caught it (loaded it into the ship), you may continue moving if that ship still has movement points." The order it is done is moved and then loaded. I hope this makes sense. That's just how I interpret it. If anyone else wants to share what they think, happy to hear too.

Yes, you roll once per turn to discover a fish haul in one of the discovered fish shoal hexes, see rules from the website here: "During your movement phase, you may roll the die to try to place a fish haul on one of the discovered fish shoal hexes. You may make this roll before moving one of your ships or after moving one of your ships. You may never interrupt a ship's movement to roll the die. This roll can only be made once on your turn. Roll 1 die. If the result matches any discovered fish shoal hex, take 1 fish haul from the supply and place it on this hex. However, you are not allowed to place the fish haul on a fish shoal hex if: there already is a fish haul on the hex, or there is a pirate ship on the hex. If you roll the number of an undiscovered fish shoal hex, do not place a fish haul. Also, if the supply of fish hauls is depleted, you cannot roll the die for fish haul placement." If the ship is next to a hex with a fish haul, you may take it. Here are the rules regarding catching a fish haul: "You can catch a fish haul if either end of one of your empty ships points toward a fish shoal hex with a fish haul (example A). Take the fish haul from the hex and put it in your ship (example B). A fish haul fills your ship's hold. You can't load more game pieces onto that ship until the haul has been delivered. If you have moved your ship to a fish haul and caught it (loaded it onto the ship), you may continue moving if that ship still has movement points. I hope this helps! Enjoy the game :)

What happens if you roll a 2 ,no one is getting 1 gold or nothing

From what I see in the rules, if you don't get a resource you get 1 gold, with the exception when you roll a 7. I think you get 1 gold.

Yeah, I’m about to play my first game, and it doesn’t show using a 2 in the instructions. I was curious about that too.
